We had been waiting a while to eat at 86 and it didn't meant expectations at all. Clumsy service and mediocre food. We had a table booked for 8:30 and when we arrived we were told we would have to wait 30 minutes for a table, luckily they had space at the bar. When we asked the waitress whether we had ordered enough food, she said what we had ordered wouldn't be enough and encouraged us to order one of the larger meat plates. By the time we had got through all of the food that we had wanted we were more than satisfied, and still waiting on the extra plates we had been told we would need. The food wasn't terrible, but it also doesn't deserve the hype that I've been hearing about it over the l...

Massive fan of this place. Hands down probably one of the best places you'll eat in Canberra. Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Make sure you make a booking because this place always gets booked out, even on a weekday. The staff are very friendly and the ambiance is warm and inviting. Started off with the fried chicken which was tender and moist. This was followed by the cauliflower salad which was amazing. As a main we shared the lamb wagyu. The dessert was the star of the show : the famous banoffie pie everyone raves about but I understand why. The crumb is sweet with a hint of salt, caramel and fresh bananas and cream / topped with salted pretzels. Yummm!!! Would definitely come...
We came here on a Sunday evening, in a group of six. Quite an early 6pm dinner before a show. I like the simple but hip ambience and feel of the place. We were served quickly and efficiently, consistently attended to throughout the evening. And the food was beautifully consistent too. Overall, the dishes were on the slightly spicy side but very fresh. The standout was the Pumpkin and Mascarpone Tortellini, although at $34 a serving that consisted of only 5 individual tortellinis, it's probably on the slightly steeper side. The Black Chicken ($42) was also delicious and well balanced. Overall, I really enjoyed Eightysix and would recommend it! Book a table now
Stunning food, exceptional service. I couldn't ask for more from my new favourite in Canberra. Was with a group of 9 that tried the 86 shared menu, and each dish that came out was just mouth watering delicious. Highlights for me were the pappardelle w parmesan & local black truffle, bag salmon w pickles and the lamb shoulder was just to die for. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and the chefs were even receptive to my inquiries on how that lamb shoulder is prepared (without giving too much away) ;-) Love it and can't wait to go back.
NOTE: no longer open for lunch - only dinner. Here for a Saturday night dinner. What a great casual dining experience. The dishes are meant to be shared. The Black Chicken was great - moist, flavoursome, and 2 large piece of chicken. We were watching other tables and the food that was being served - and there was so many tempting things. HINT: do the all you can eat for $80 per person option and try everything. The staff were welcoming and engaging. No wonder this place is so popular - we will be back to try the entire menu.
Went to this restaurant with some anticipation and was a bit disappointed. Excellent food, an interesting wine list, but no wait staff expertise to advise on selection. Chicken parfait was amazing, with a spices rhubarb sauce topping. Truly memorable. Eat it with a spoon. The drawback? Waaaay too noisy inside when busy - outside is on the street and similar problem. Could be better for lunch - and they are only open on Fridays...
I'd resisted 86 because I'm not into pretentious dining and had a feeling it might be overrated, however, I was blown away. The food was incredible! Highlights were the black chicken, gnocchi and banoffee pie. It's not cheap and our waitress was painful, but the food and wine more than made up for it! What an incredible dining experience, probably the most impressive meal I've had in Canberra. Book a table now
Nice ambience and food but hugely overpriced for serving portions. We were content with our initial orders from the top half of the menu but the waitress made us feel like we had to order more. We ordered the lamb pasta - $35 for four pieces of pasta? You've got to be joking. It left a very bad taste in our mouth and we won't be back.
Delicious!! Throughly enjoyed every part, from the service to the food. Great to see a team of people working together to make something special.

"I recently visited Canberra for the first time and tried Dosa Hut for the first time. I must say, we had the best curry and chicken fried rice here. The flavors were amazing and absolutely delicious."

"Comfortable, clean, attentive service. The portions can be inconsistent. I ordered the Avocado bruschetta, unfortunately it was drowning in a heavy balsamic thickened sauce which totally overpowered the delicate flavor of the avocado"
