You have to be committed going to Tatzlwurm to endure the windy and narrow road up the mountain (especially at night and in the winter), but you're definitely rewarded once you get there. The grounds of the restaurant and hotel are beautiful and the interior of the restaurant is quaint, warm and authentic. The food was wonderful, from drinks to appetizers to entrees to dessert. Not one regret from our party of 9, and we all ordered something different. I don't know if it's typical, but while we were there, they played American 70s and 80s music, which was a strange juxtaposiiton of visual and aural elements... but we still enjoyed all aspects of the visit, music and all!

After being on the Wendelstein we passed by the Tatzelwurm by coincidence. Already from the outside this hotel/restaurant looks spectacular. We had lunch: fried chicken with potato/mâché lettuce. Mixed pork platter. Tiroler Groestl. Everything looked very appetizing and prepared/presented with great care. The taste was...excellent, exactly what you expect from Bavarian/Austrian cuisine. The service was out of this world, never in Europe we had staff this friendly and knowledgeable wait on us. The restaurant has a very attractive alpine flair to it, not kitschy, very original and homy. Prices are very fair. We decided this is our fav Alpine food location.
Wir waren vor 2 Jahren bereits mehrmals hintereinander dort zum Essen und waren begeistert vom Essen, Service und Ambiente. Leider waren wir dieses Mal enttäuscht. Die Speisekarte war ausgedünnt und hatte nur eine begrenzte Auswahl an Gerichten der einfachen bayrischen Küche, nichts Ausgefallenes, aber sehr gehobenes Preisniveau. Also fiel uns erstmal die Wahl schwer. Unsere Suppe kam lauwarm an. Der Meerrettich auf dem Tafelspitz war wahrscheinlich schon uralt und hatte keine Schärfe mehr. Auch die anderen Speisen waren wenig einfallsreich bzw. besonders schmackhaft zubereitet.Sehr schade, wir wären gerne wiedergekommen.

Serendipity always has its rewards! We stopped at a car park in the woods for a walk and came across the waterfall. We could glimpse a few tables laid out for service and came across the restaurant by the back door. We sat outside in...glorious sunshine and thoroughly enjoyed their white asparagus accompanied with fish and schnitzel. First class service accompanied the meal and fuelled us for the return trip to the woodland car park (uphill). The hotel has great looking spa attached.
The resort hotel grounds are lovely. Located in the midst of mountains, driving there on the narrow winding road during the day is very pleasant but need to be careful at night. The restaurant decor is typical Bavarian with lots of wood, but the ambience...is airy yet cozy. The wait staff is efficient ad extremely friendly. The food is well prepared and very tasty. The wine selection is fairly good. Excellent dining option for a special occasion.

We stopped for a drink after visiting the waterfall. The atmosphere is quite special, nice decor. Would like to stay for a day or two as there is good walking in the area.
