I have been driving past Fondru 's on the way home in West Hobart for a while now. Each time I drive past I think 'I will have to stop in there to check it out sometime '. Well, I drove past on Saturday afternoon and this time I did stop. I am glad that I did. I settled in to the impressive surrounds, with its rustic charm and enjoyed a nice glass of Tasmanian Pinor Noir with some simple baguette. The fair was simple but the enjoyment of it was lovely. What a wonderful welcome to Hobart! We arrived on Friday afternoon, dropped off our bags at our accommodation, and walked down the street to find a sign inviting us in for cheese and wine...what more could anyone ask for? The interior is charming, and the owner is warm and friendly, clearly knowledgeable about everything on offer. We could have easily spent all day there—and we nearly did! The cocktails are amazing, and the fondue is absolutely divine (be sure to add the bacon bits to your order). I will definitely return the next time I'm in Hobart!
We chose two of the recommended dishes and were thoroughly satisfied. The Porcini Mushroom Fondue was wonderfully indulgent, and the Steak Onglet, cooked rare as requested, was juicy and beautifully seasoned. The Pomme Frites were a delightful surprise—rather than traditional fries, they were whole baby potatoes, cooked and then deep-fried to perfection. We couldn't get enough of them!
The wine list is impressive, featuring some excellent selections available by the glass or bottle. We’ll definitely be back to try the cheeses!
Came in off the street with no booking. The owner didn't catch her name. She was blonde. But in saying that all the staff are blonde) greeted us on arrival with a big cheesy smile and welcomed us with the warm hospitality Hobart is known for. Ordered a few small plates. The stand out was the quail and the pumpkin. Absolute gold and I liked that plates clean. I'm a boring beer drinker but my pals got fancy cocktails and loved them.

Fondru’s Fromagerie Wine is a charming and cozy bistro offering delicious food alongside a well-curated selection of wines that perfectly complement the meal. The service was excellent, with attentive staff timing each course thoughtfully. The menu featured an intriguing variety of dishes inspired by seasonal ingredients.
This place is so good. So many cheeses, prepared in many delicious ways. We had the Tasmanian Cheese board and a traditional fondue, recommend both. The cheese flights looked great and they have charcuterie boards too. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of wines, plus beer and whisky too.
During a brief visit from Melbourne, I was thrilled to discover this charming little wine bar. The cheese board featuring the soft cheese was absolutely incredible! I also really enjoyed the corn with chipotle. The service was excellent as well!
The food was absolutely delicious! They have a fantastic wine selection. Even though we arrived late, they were incredibly accommodating. The atmosphere is cozy, relaxed, and intimate. We will definitely be returning!
