My wife and I dined at this restaurant the other night. I had the NY strip steak which was delicious, and the sides that came with it were also excellent. My wife ordered the tavern burger with gouda, and she really enjoyed it. However, my only complaint was that the tomato bisque tasted like it came from a can and had a metallic taste, so I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Despite the warm temperature at the restaurant, we still had a good overall experience and plan to return to see how things go next time.
05/26/22 We have been here before many times. this was an overnight stay. The staff and the food was great. My sister-in-law has never been to Historic Smithville, so this was all new to her. I was so looking forward to the corn-beef sandwich, but they didn't have it anymore, I had the Philly Cheese Steak, which was excellent. also no more bottled root beer soda. We will return in June on our way to Wildwood, NJ. This is our mid way stop for food and looking in the shops. We recommend this place for food.
We ate dinner here, and were satisfied with the experience. Located in the Smithville historic village, the facility is clean and well-maintained; with a comfortable rustic ambiance. Our server, Coby was friendly and attentive, We enjoyed the Ethel's classic meatloaf (baked potato, etc and Thanksgiving turkey (sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, etc selections; both being quite good and amply portioned. All and all, this restaurant is a solid option if one is seeking a good meal.
Worst meal I ever had there. First, brought wrong dinner. They got me a new one, Turkey dinner. Sliced Turkey was dry and hard around the edges. Menu is very small. They use to be great when they had prime rib night on Thursdays, but that has been discontinued. Two others in our party had Turkey dinner and felt the same as me about it.

I had very low expectations for this restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was actually delicious! I ordered the turkey verde wrap with perfectly crispy fries. The staff was friendly, the service was fast, and the prices were really affordable.
Fred and Ethel's Lamplighter Cafe is located in Historic Smithville. It has a full service Bar and indoor and outdoor seating. There are many entrees including chicken, pasta, beef, Sandwiches and salads. Service is excellent.
What a wonderful rehearsal dinner we had at Fred and Ethel's. Buffet and apps were awesome. Our waitress was the BEST. Bridget thank you for helping with the menu!!
Great pub! Stopped in for lunch and a drink, the service was on point and attentive. Food was delicious! Atmosphere was nice!
