We were looking forward to a pleasant dinner in a historic restaurant, but the food was mediocre and the staff were unfriendly, unwelcoming and possibly xenophobic. We had booked a table online and received a confirmation message on the restaurant's website, although the promised follow-up...email did not arrive. The restaurant claimed to have no knowledge of our booking and tried to make a big issue out of the fact that we had not received the promised email, implying that it was our fault. (The restaurant wasn't full and they had loads of empty tables We very nearly walked out at that point, but unfortunately we chose to stay. Not recommended.

A year-old historic guest house and restaurant recommended by Goethe back in his day. As American tourists we loved the traditional look and history of the place. We were able to get our party of seated outside right away only steps from Goethe’s...House on a scenic square. The food was all traditional local German for the Thüringen region and delicious. The menu was in German but not a problem with a cell phone and google translate. We ordered very nice local bratwurst, sauerbraten, and beef Roulade that came with a mild purple cabbage sauerkraut and round light potato dumplings called Klöße. It was a great meal and very pleasant setting.

The restaurant is located next to the Goethe’s Wohnhaus on the Frauenplan. The history of the Gasthaus goes back more than years, and Goethe himself was a frequent guest here. The food is traditional and regional Thuringia food, and we had a good lunch...with excellent beer.

In this historic place with modern elements (especially quotations on the wall) there are various, predominantly regional specialties. The service is friendly, the dishes (I had Sauerbraten) taste excellent. Prices are appropriate for the category of restaurant.
