"Great Portuguese meail - rather unexpectedly, in Brugg. Lovely food and ambience, also very friendly and welcoming. Not so cheap (but what is, in switzerland?). But well worth it."

The discovery of this restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. Indeed I am always looking for restaurant with more sophisticated and original cuisine. In the Grotto you will find a very pleasant atmosphere with a good and friendly service. I would even say that you have a kind of family feeling. But then come the surprise: the cooking is excellent. Sea dished are prepare with great finesse and I really discovered a aspect of Portuguese cuisine that I did know about. Some dishes are very special and the waitress explain well their origin (by the way she speak good french, english and for sure german). The wine are very good and it is a pleasure to discover these unknown wine from local produc...

You get the sense that the people at Grotto are doing this out of love of food. They're a part of the Slow Food movement and it shows in their cooking. We stayed with fish for the evening and it was top quality (coming from Italy and Ireland, we know a bit about how good fish can be). Answering the key question: Will we return? The answer is definitely yes, and we'd probably go for the fish again. For wine, 2 starters, 2 mains and coffees we paid about 200CHF. Not something you would do every week, but worth saving for a special occassion.

Portuguese restaurants are few and far between. The food, while clearly of European school, can be always surprising. And surprisingly good too! The restaurant is managed by an old couple, very friendly and welcoming. Service can be slow, especially if you do not follow the "day's tips", but well worth waiting. Price is a bit higher than usual (even for the region), but again, every CHF here is well spent. If they have some fish from the Azores (cannot recall the name), that is my suggestion!

We went to this place for the first time after reading many good reviews from trip advisor. We were surprised how good the food was. There was a very welcoming atmosphere. We would surely recommend it.
