Upon entering HoQ in Des Moines, Iowa, you can't help but wonder how such a place exists in this location. The atmosphere is fantastic, perfect for conversation even on a busy Saturday night. The food is a standout - with creative and complex flavors presented beautifully. The steak and lamb shank were particularly impressive, as was the Mediterranean Bowl. The appetizers were also excellent, and the Nan served with the dishes was the freshest and lightest we've ever had. The pricing was very reasonable for the quality of the food, from the wine to the entrees. we visited the jubilee dinner. the restaurant looked beautiful and the service was great. eating was very good, apart from the third cure, a dry and very blande type of shredded bun on a savory waffel. the lamb was excellent, the chowder was perfect and delicious for a cold evening.
While it was a bit pricey for the portion size, the restaurant does use local ingredients. I ordered the vegan bowl which contained fried rice, lentils, black beans, spinach, greens, and potatoes, and it was delicious! Plus, the meal was free!
