We decided to visit Hot Fish on a Saturday afternoon and were promptly seated since the restaurant wasn’t busy. I must say, the decor is quite impressive—it's one of the more attractive Chinese restaurants I've experienced. We ordered several dishes to share, starting with the Dan Dan noodles. However, the sauce was too thick and reminded me of peanut sauce. We also tried tofu, string beans, and a chicken dish, but unfortunately, all of them were just average. For our main course, we ordered the Baja fish in chili oil sauce, but that didn't win me over either; it was overwhelmed by too many peppercorns. The service was good, but the food didn’t live up to my expectations. I know of better op...

Hot Fish is an excellent choice for Szechuan cuisine! The staff is exceptionally friendly, and the fact that it's a BYOB restaurant is a nice perk. We ordered the red pepper chicken with extra spices, hoping it would resemble our favorite Chongqing chicken, but it didn't quite reach our expectations for spiciness. We also tried the dan dan noodles; they were decent, but not as noteworthy as those from other places I've visited.
I may think about giving this restaurant another shot, but I must admit I’m feeling a bit let down this time. We ordered a lot of fried dishes, but they were quite greasy. The grilled fish was fresh and tender, yet it was lacking in flavor. I was also looking forward to experiencing authentic Sichuan cuisine, but the Chuan Bei rice jelly didn’t meet my expectations. I’ll likely choose some different dishes next time!
The Sichuan cuisine at Hot Fish is outstanding and genuinely authentic. It's probably the finest Chinese restaurant in New Jersey, and perhaps even outside of New York City. I strongly suggest trying the spicy chicken, house special ribs, cumin lamb, dry pot cabbage, and of course, any of their hot fish dishes! We make a half-hour drive each way just to eat here, and it’s always worth the journey! Book a table now
Really nice place for schezuan food! The staff is very nice. Bonus: it is a BYOB! We got their red pepper chicken with extra spices. We were hoping for it to be like our favorite place's chongquing chicken but it was less spicy than we expected. We alsogot the dan dan noodles, which were okay compared to my previous experience at other places.
Absolutely amazing and authentic sichuan food. Probably the best Chinese restaurant in NJ and outside of NYC. Highly recommend spicy chicken, house special ribs, cumin lamb, dry pot cabbage and of course any of the hot fishes! W Drive a half hour eachway to eat here and it is always worth the trip!
If you're in the Hackensack area, I highly recommend Hot Fish. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the food is excellent. We ordered Basa filets cooked in hot chili oil, salt and pepper spare ribs, and drunken noodles. Everything was quite tasty, and I will definitely be returning!
Hot Fish features an impressive selection of Sichuan dishes in a refined Chinese dining setting. Although the lunch portions might be a bit smaller than usual, the taste is outstanding. This restaurant is a must-visit for food enthusiasts in Hackensack, thanks to its remarkable menu. Book a table now
I had a craving for spicy food, so I decided to stop by Hot Fish for their lunch menu deal. I ordered the basa filets with spicy sauce along with a hot and sour soup. Both were quite spicy and absolutely delicious! I definitely plan to return to try some other dishes.
