I was so disappointed with my visit today. This is about the service and not the food. We come here allll the time. I 've probably been here 20 times because we love the food. I took my friend, who I haven 't seen in months, here for the first time. We were seated at 4:55pm. The server seemed annoyed and she was rushing us from the start even though it was early and they weren 't crowded whatsoever, but that wasn 't a big deal. We ended up figuring out our order somewhat quickly. Fast forward we finish eating and are just visiting and talking and finishing our drinks. Kampai is a local favorite sushi spot, and for all the right reasons! Although we no longer live is Los Alamitos, we make sure to visit every time we are in the area. Great sushi. Great appetizers. Great drinks. And all for a reasonable price! We love everything from their sashimis to rolls to their fried appetizers. Their sushi is always fresh and great quality. The place gets busy, but we are always able to find a table, no problem. The staff is always friendly, and the restaurant has your typical casual sushi vibe. This place is always delicious and consistent. We moved to the area a few months ago and our first order of business is always to find a new sushi spot. Kampai does not disappoint. They have a big enough menu that you don't get bored and the fish always tastes fresh. The prices are also reasonable for the quality so I never feel like I'm getting ripped off. This is a great place to go for lunch during the week. They have great deals on sushi lunch combos that allow you to leave satisfied and still have money in your wallet.
I can confirm that I worked there for three hours, and I noticed several concerning practices. When the salmon fell on the floor, they simply washed it off instead of discarding it. The staff don't wear gloves, and the area behind the sushi bar is quite dirty. The meat is not stored at the correct temperature, and any leftovers are sold the following day. The same goes for the shrimp. Customers are unaware of these issues happening in the kitchen.

This is one of my long time lunchtime work go-tos. It's delicious, I recommend the bento box for an all around selection of food offerings, soup, and salad. The service is fast, which is great because they are always packed, which should tell you everything else you need to know!

Very fresh food always!! Your fresh vegetables with rice chicken or shrimp....my friends always have your fresh shrimp roll!
