La Cabana has been a longstanding favorite in Newark for decades. Be sure to try the Cochinita Pibil, also known as el Puerto pibil, which gained fame thanks to Johnny Depp in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." This dish is a rare find in Mexican restaurants. It's a mouthwatering roasted pork served in a fantastic sauce that packs just the right amount of heat. The meal is complete with tortillas, rice, and beans. The house margaritas are excellent and pair perfectly with the chips and salsa.
Fantastic seafood at amazing prices! I particularly enjoy the traditional dishes that only a Mexican grandma would know how to prepare, like sopitos and enchiladas rancheras. The drinks are fresh and abundant, with a wide selection of tequilas to choose from. Occasionally, they have live music, which adds to the vibrant atmosphere. La Cabana is the perfect spot to unwind with friends after work or enjoy a meal with family on weekends. Great food and great drinks!
The food was quite good. I particularly enjoyed the ceviche, which featured large chunks of fish that were perfectly balanced with lime flavor. My son's chimichanga was quickly finished off. They also had three screens showing various sporting events, if that's what you’re into. It was nice to catch the final game of the World Series while I was there. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but I found the prices to be higher than I anticipated.
I had a great experience ordering from this restaurant for the first time. The nopal omelette was fantastic, and the tortillas were served piping hot.
