Our 13 strong family group had a very special lunch here at La Table d'Hautpoul in the mountains above Mazamet. Two amazing Portuguese women who run this special place gave us a very memorable lunch. Even though we were a large group, we were accommodated in the tavern and given a beautiful meal. Our young grandchildren were given a choice of dishes and the adults enjoyed a three course meal of authentic food. The ladies seemed able to meet all our needs with ease. The views from the terrace which looks down the mountain towards Mazamet is worth the visit. Do yourselves a favour and visit this quaint place in a most beautiful ancient village.

We stopped at Hautpoul on the return journey from Mazamet to Carcassonne. All we had was a glass of delicious fresh orange juice but we were entranced by the charm and simplicity of the Taverne and by the amazing views. The pristine toilets are worth mentioning as they are located downstairs and you can see how the building is built into the side of the hill. It is like being inside a very clean, cool cave. Just wish we could have stayed longer and had a meal in this amazing, peaceful setting.

We visited the Taverne on a visit to Mazamet and Hautpoul. A beautiful ancient village worth visiting. The gardens are absolute lovely. It was very quiet as it was a bit of a grey day. Maria. And the scottish lady in the taverne are both very friendly and happy to talk to you. We only stopped for a drink but next time we will be back to sample the food as well.Don't know what a previous reviewer 'Chris' was expecting; perhaps gallopping wildebeest?

We ate here three times in a week. The three course dinner is 17.50 Euros and includes wine and is home cooked by Maria. She's a very good cook! You need to reserve in the evening but don't expect a reply from them. The booking will have been made. The view from the terrace of sunset over Mazamet was spectacular. A short uphill walk from the car park below. Not for the very unfit.
