A Bar Toto was brought for the dog as our aperitifs arrived.We just had the special of the day; a confit duck leg, but it was superb. The wine, just a carafe as we know that it will be good, was brilliant. The Cafe Gourmand was a Cognac Gourmand, with a choice of cognacs. It's truly a lovely place to dine, in the middle of Cognac town, and delightfully restored art deco dining room. I visited twice, both times for lunch, first selecting from a prix fixe lunch menu (charcuterie and pork special) and the next day a nicioise salad a la carte. Charcuterie was excellent and probably the highlight off the meals I tasted. Plentyfull tasting slices of Jambon, Saucisson and a fantastic rilette. Perhaps it was the dishes we had, but I personally found the food very bland and lacking in seasoning of flavour. I had the fish of the day, Swordfish, which I have had numerous times before at different restaurants, it literally didn't taste of anything and the sauce equally so. The starter salad didn't come with all the ingredients as per menu and we were not informed. The dessert was okay i suppose & a decent size portion. The staff were pleasant enough. When staff ask how your food is, don't tell them (whichever restaurant you go to) it is okay if it is not, otherwise a restaurant won't improve. Went here after a long day travelling and on recommendation from French Gite hosts , but unfortunately we were disappointed.Served efficiently to start with then as place got busier we found we struggled to get the attention of any staff.My 1st steak turned up stone cold, I then watched my partner eat his pork brochette.The 2nd steak was hot but very tough and rarer that the medium requested. The chips were good. I asked for English tea which turned up as Earl Grey which when I said I did not ask for they at least took off the bill. Visited the restaurant with my family and were seated in the lovely upstairs dining area. Unfortunately, the service & the food were very disappointing - over priced too in comparison with other restaurants in the area! I had the beef tartin which seriously could have been half a kilo of hamburger mince from the supermarket - not good at all!
Great variety of dishes with fish or meat cooked in french style.very tasty salad nicoise ,the main dishes also.very big portions and also garniture and sauce of dishes were tastefull. The local sausage didn't like us because it smelled a lot.big wine list with intermediated prices.
Visited for lunch with my family. Service was awful, they forgot our lunch, our wine , gave us items we didn't order. When the food finally did arrive (after over an hour and a half) it was greasy and tasteless. Very disappointed as it looked a nice place and seemed popular.
Nice restautant. They did well on serving the kids meals went we got our starter. I had oysters and can surely recommend these. My main was beef and this was good. My wife had pork which she did not like. The meat was a bit to tough. Good espresso.

We visited this restaurant twice during our stay in Cognac. Although our French not fantastic, we found the waiters polite and helpful on both occasions. The menu offered a range of choices, with the seafood options being a favourite.
