Business took me to Valenciennes earlier this month. I saw that Le Hans was attached to the Grand Hotel. I decided to give it a try despite the conventional wisdom against hotel restaurants, and I am very glad I did. It being a Monday night in August, there were very few diners but I was delighted to see that they were the regulars from town, well-acquainted with the waiters and the menu. Solid upper-middle class bourgeoisie, I 'd say. The choices and wines looked wonderful but not knowing any better, I opted for the set dinner.
