We went to Vitré to see their art museum and the walls they let invited artists do graffiti on, but first had lunch here. We pulled the name from the Red book. It’s a very pretty, comfortable place with comfortable space between tables. They offer a menu that’s different each day with two choices the day we were there, and we ordered one of each. I had a flammekueche appetizer. Flammekueche is an Alsatian dish that’s basically a flamed tart made with cheese and onions, and was beautifully presented. None of if it is in the least pretentious just interesting and tasting great. We had lunch here twice as we wanted to explore the menu. It was much better than many of the grander, starred places we have tried and much better value. We loved the refreshing carrot ‘smoothie’ starter, the snails and the veal carpaccio. The veal sweetbread with morels and duck with fois gras let the great ingredients take centre stage. The apple pudding with its clever play of an apple parfait and sorbet was excellent. We have tried to visit this restaurant for dinner on a couple of occasions but it was closed, this time we were successful. The man who runs the restaurant speaks english and they also have an english version of the menu. Menu is not large but is reasonably varied. The service was fine, perhaps a little slow but we were not in a hurry. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, it was not expensive and would certainly go back. We tried on a Monday lunchtime but it was closed!
