We've been going to the Relais D'Aydie for the last 12 years - ever since we bought a house in the village. This really is a gem with some memorable home-cooked dishes and fantastic value for money. Impeccably clean with air conditioning for the hot summers this large restaurant is family run with an extensive menu. You can have a three course menu for as little as 12 Euros or the 'Menu Gourmande' for 25. Its worth mentioning that the portions are substantial and the four-course menus can leave you feeling a bit on the stuffed side. But there is a great 'A La carte' menu from which you can choose from great salads and some of the house specialities such as Garbure - a delicious local vegetabl...

No I'm not talking about hallucinogens, it's just the special and secret flavours that go into the signature dish. Set in an unremarkable restaurant at a relais on top of a hill on the edge of town, this place is famed for the cep omelette. But it doesn't stop there. The set menu offers fantastic duck confit and frites cooked in duck fat, followed by cheese and salad. You really must try it. True French home-style cooking at its best. No need for dinner after a lunch like this! Eat up and then go try a wine or two at the many vineyards close by.

Tucked away outside the village of Aydie, in the lovely Gers countryside, is this little gem. firmly aimed at the lunch-time trade (when we usually go) for local people, so no airs and graces, just good, honest food. Remember that most people in the region take two hours over lunch, so don't go expecting rapid service - relax with a bottle of red from the local chateau (in the same village) and treat yourself to the mushroom omelette, which is sensational. Pleasant atmosphere, relaxed service.

Food excellent, especially the mushroom omelette. Lovely people. The only minor issue (and the reason I've only given it four stars) is that two of us wanted creme brulee for dessert and they only had one left. Bad planning!
