this restaurant is located next to the theater in the center of epernay, in an imposing building with a decoration from the 19th century, including large mirrors. we came around seven for a booking by eight, have our arithmetic wrong for the British against central european time, but it was. no problem as our table was ours all night. it was a celebrity dinner where we splashed on a few half bottles of champagne, and as they would expect from the location, this restaurant offers some possibilities that we did not come before. for beginners we had snails and foie grass, followed by turbot and lamb. the food was excellently prepared and the service attentive. the ambiente was excellent with a...

As you will see I don’t do negative reviews on TripAdvisor. I feel that one should address problems as they occur rather than be a keyboard warrior post event. However… here are the positives: Great location in the heart of Épernay. Average decor in keeping with...the theatre theme. And the negatives: Overpriced nonsense. Incapable to cater for a vegetarian in our party of six. The only option was an absolutely filthy mushroom melange. I ordered escargot for a starter. And I got tinned snails. Meant to be served with pomme purée which were TINNED POTATOES MASHED that had the worst consistency tasted like gritty sand. My fish main was actually OK slightly over cooked but I refer to my comment...

the presentation of the restaurant is excellent: besides the theater in epernay it offers a high service and an atmosphere. However, note the tricks of the French cuisine: the sauces. after an excellent Fois-Gras I ordered a dorade (yes head) file. The fish came up with his (krispy) skin. unfortunately the dorade definitiw was bred and of low quality: tasteless and with a sponge consistency. it was however cloged in a white wine sauce, which some sea ingredients (mussel, I think) initially contributed to giving some respect to this tasteless fish, and all the night needed to be digested.

close to other (english) people who had signed themselves to a similar deal and a fixed menu, it felt like we were a bit clipped out, especially when we were all sitting in a row of 3 x 2pax tables. the service was something. slow and focused on other diners. the tired to have additional champagne outside the fixed 3 glasses was challenging. the choice was a bit limited to the set menu and not excessively inspiring, though we did not complain and enjoy what we ate.
