We visited L'Estaminet at Flez Cuzy, just outside Tannay. It's a very short stroll from the Canal du Nivernais if you're travelling by canal boat. I'm not sure if this is the same establishment, but it certainly has the same name. The bar is...best described as local. Please don't be put off however, as the attached restaurant and beer garden serve great food. The Beer Garden has a great ambiance with geraniums and bright clean tables and chairs. The service was friendly, engaging and efficient. There are a selection of set menus (steak, slow cooked Lamb shanks etc) which include an entrée, cheese and dessert course. Such a cute and friendly place. Very charming. We arrived for lunch, and they just started bringing food without our ordering. The salad had a circle of surimi (not my favorite), and delicious mayonnaise, fresh red leaf lettuce, and a very good tomato. Perfect. But THEN they brought a plate of six local cheeses, all cow, which were fabulous and one of the reasons why we travel. And THEN a mousse au chocolat, which was divine. With a good pitcher of local rouge, we were both happy. If you're in Tannay, definitely go there. You must pass by...

We started our canal holiday on the Nivernais canal at Tannay. I did the short walk to this what appeared from the outside a little local bar I decided it was the closest place to eat not holding out any hope it would be any...good. I was wrong the food was exelent as was the service. Appearances can be deceptive. A pleasant surprise.

We had a great dinner here on the first day of a canal boat trip. We came as a family group of seven. The food was very good and authentic, and the hospitality was fantastic. Special highlights were the cheese board and desserts. I definitely...recommend this cosy, friendly restaurant.
