A new favorite Indian Restaurant in San Rafael. Truly excellent and decent portions of Asian Indian foods. Located in what was the Orgazma Pizza place, that closed a year or two ago. To us it was such a dirty place that we only went when the grandchildren were younger. In talking to the new owner of Lotus, I mentioned the location and he agreed that it was so bad that they gutted the interior and totally rebuilt the current, very classy and beautiful, award winning Lotus Indian Cuisine of India. My whole family adores Lotus, and we truly appreciate that the food is prepared with high-quality, organic ingredients. It reminds us of the authentic flavors from back home in India. I recently collaborated with the Lotus team to cater an event for 45-50 people. Surinder, the owner, was incredibly helpful throughout the process. He kept in touch with me regularly, delivered everything on time, and even provided all the necessary items like matches to keep the chafing dishes warm all night. I typically visit this restaurant for their lunch buffet. They offer a standard selection for a moderately sized buffet. However, I've noticed that the quality has become inconsistent lately—perhaps due to a new chef? Additionally, they've raised their prices. Unfortunately, there aren't many other options for Indian food in the North Bay area.
The best buffet I have ever been to for Indian favorites. Excellent butter chicken, saag paneer with corn, tender tandoori chicken, moist lamb, eggplant pakora, vegetable navarin. Great food. The food was good, but we were quite let down by the service. The waiter made us feel uncomfortable when we tried to order a light meal for three. It seemed like our choice wasn't appreciated. Additionally, the waiter laughed in our faces when we asked to split the bill. It's really disappointing because the restaurant is nicely decorated.
When it comes to comfort food, nothing hits quite like Indian cuisine. Before the pandemic, we adored visiting Indian buffets, especially places like Lotus. When they closed down, my parents were particularly heartbroken.
