This place has a small dining area and no outdoor dining. It is on the opposite side of Chuckie Cheese along with Chill Bubble Tea and Penn Station. Down the street is another small Japanese restaurant and you can easily confuse their names. The menu is limited and I'm not sure if the owner(s) are Japanese. The presentation of the various dishes are not what I am accustomed to and I will get to that. They get 1* for service, 1* for very fresh sashimi, and 1* for cleanliness. Now for the appetizers we ordered the Gomae which was done right, but sloppy presentation of the spinach and not much sauce. The Agedashi tofu was horrible with cubes of fried tofu and they used the wrong firmness and th...

Makisu Sushi has amazing food, great sushi, and wonderful service. My vegetarian friend and I (a vegan! dined in for lunch and had tons of food options to choose from. The service was great and very attentive. We ordered the vegan ramen, sweet potato rolls and edamame. Food reviews below! Vegan ramen 8/10 The broth itself is very flavorful and the tofu is good. We weren't a fan of the strange veggie combos, like squash, as they didn't really go well with the ramen. The mushrooms were delicious though and I appreciate them having this veggie ramen on the menu! Sweet potato rolls 8/10 Very good! Pretty big rolls with a good amount of tempura and a perfect rice to potato ratio. The sweet sauce...
Upon entering around 11:30 AM, we found only one other customer dining in the restaurant. The interior has a lovely ambiance—sleek and clean, it's a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. The lunch menu offers 14 different options, each served as a beautifully presented meal. Each option comes with miso soup, salad, mixed vegetable fried rice, and a main entree. My wife opted for the salmon box ($10), while I chose the tempura box ($11), which included shrimp and vegetable tempura along with the same accompaniments. The miso soup was outstanding, possibly the best I've ever tasted. The fried rice was decent, but the addition of crispy fried noodles on top added a delightful crunch that I really a...
The ambiance took a dip during the pandemic due to fewer customers, but it used to have a charming vibe with excellent service, so I'm hopeful it will improve as things get back to normal. For now, we've mostly been getting takeout, which suits us, but they do still have a little seating available. I've also tried their salmon poke bowl, and it's fantastic—with a generous portion of fish and a delightful mix of textures and flavors. I appreciate that they offer tofu options, which allows me to enjoy a fully plant-based meal when I want one. My husband is a huge fan of their salad dressing and often orders extra to use throughout the week. And let me just say, their gyoza are perfection! If... Book a table now
When all prices went up minimum 40-50% , when you eat out, you expect the quality increase proportional to the price increase. When it is not the case, you leave the restaurant frustrated. That 's what happened with us at MAKISU Sushi lounge. Our miso soup was non eventful. The true disappointment was a Lightly Tempura Battered Soft Shell Crab . The soft shell crab was NOT lightly breaded, it was very heavily breaded. Second, the tempura batter successfully killed all the taste of soft shell crab. A total disaster. Salmon sashimi set was passable. The last drop was a charge of $2.50 for extra ginger. It was a regrettable experience not worth $150 for 2. I would not waste money on this restau...
Food review: The sushi itself is very average. Nothing much that stands out but nothing bad either. Might just be my personal preferences, but the California rolls had more of a minced crab meat texture than the usual chunk of crab meat made the overall roll more mushy which wasn't my favorite. The fish there is an ok quality, still somewhat fresh. They do have a good kick in their spicy dishes though! Price Review: The price is decent for the food you get, but there are better places with same price points. Misc: The atmosphere was more classy and their bar adds a more sophisticated/elegant look to the restaurant. Restaurant is on the smaller end wouldn't come with a party of 8 or more (eve...
The food was good, but the wait for our meals was way too long! On top of that, the temperature in the restaurant was freezing; they really need to address the heating situation. I go there to relax, not to have to wear my jacket indoors. It was so uncomfortable that it nearly ruined my dining experience.
Something is going on over at this restaurant. We've been ordering for quite a while. The tofu has shrunk! The vegetables taste over cooked and mushy. Portion sizes have also shrunk. Nothing like we've been enjoying for quite sometime. Oh well, guess we need to find another place Book a table now
I had the spicy tuna roll, miso soup and the white peach martini and it was all delicious I love going to this place! Specially because they have steak too. Service was great as well.
Such a fantastic place. Always top notch and I love it and fairly new to sushi.
