Ordered Prawn and Avocado Cocktail with a **** Mary sauce. No Avocado and very few prawns. (We told the waiter who just brought one tiny piece of avocado on a side plate to the table) Could of been more and better presented... The **** Mary...sauce was a Basic Marie Rose sauce.....not value for money. My sister ordered the Ham Hock pie. Ham overcooked and too much corn flour in the sauce, strange consistency. Desserts were great. The wine was great, but it wasn't the actual wine we ordered....but glad we got it as was lovely. Adverised triple cooked chips....but the were normal frozen chips....nothing special Spoke to a waitress who said they had a new chef and new service staff who were not...

Hi my name is James McEwan i am the new kitchen manager for the Mare and Colt.It sounds like a few people have had a really bad experience within this establishment which i am not very happy about, there's nothing that i can do about past experiences but there is alot i would like to improve. Myself and a friend decided to break a journey with some lunch here. Nice enough pub, staff amiable. Oredered two basic main courses, which took hour and a quarter to come. The pub wasn't busy, around people. Very poor. Food itself was very...uninspiring, even for a chain pub. Portions were small. There are many better pubs nearby, and will definitly never be visiting here again, and would think twice before ever stopping at another Chef Brewer.

Terrible service. Service appauling hours for courses with children on a quiet week night is a joke. Chips cold , waitress unattentive really disappointed looks great outside but a definate case of all that glitters is not gold never again
The service at this restaurant is incredible, with friendly and welcoming staff. The atmosphere is lovely, with a roaring fire and cozy seating areas. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. I could have stayed there all day!
Lunch here today, nice service and food was very good compared to a few years ago when I last visited. Would recommend to anyone to give this place a try again, lovely pub. The Hake and Mussel Chowder was very impressive.
Came her for a quick lunch. Speed and friendliness of service was brilliant, not to mention the quality of food. Seems like this pub has been newly decked out and the interior is beautiful. Proper cozy pub love it!
