Our party of four had a wonderful birthday brunch celebration. What an extensive selection! And we all loved our choices as well as the latkes we shared as an appetizer. Not that an appetizer was needed since the portions were generous. The Montecristo Sandwich was the highlight and was the choice of the Birthday Girl! I loved my four cheese omelet with caramelized onions and mushrooms. The guys enjoyed their choices: huevos rancheros and a luscious chicken marsala. Came to Max's for dinner with my mom on a Tuesday evening. It was fairly crowded so we sat outside (amazing weather for SF so it was lovely). The chairs aren't very comfortable at the outside tables. Service was fine, but the wine list wasdisappointingly limited with few California options. The food was just okay as well. We had crab cakes, pork sliders and onionrings and while all were edible, nothing stood out as impressive. For the cost, I don't think we would return, especially sincethis was a meal out on a trip. I do note that the restaurant is walking distance from our hotel which was how we ended up there,but in the future I would go a bit farther for something better.
This place is nothing like it used to be. We waited several minutes just to be acknowledged and seated. When we were finally seated, it was clear they were understaffed. Our server never came to greet us, and there seemed to be only one server for our entire section who deliberately avoided us. After waiting for several more minutes, we decided to leave. I will never return. I understand being short-staffed, but customers should at least be acknowledged and informed about the situation. The restaurant also appeared dirty and very disorganized.
This place is amazing. Great food and ambiance and our waitress, Nicole was the best. This place has history as it has been operating since 1978. Very convenient location as it was just steps away from our hotel, Holiday Inn Express. I absolutelyrecommend this place to dine in,dine out, or just have a drink and a friendly smile

The service and food exceeded our expectations! Our waiter was fantastic, and the food was delicious. It was my wife’s birthday, so we brought our own cake, and the waiter kindly offered to store it in the refrigerator. When it was time to serve the cake, he even brought it out with the candles lit!
Had lunch with my mother and had a wonderful time. The potato skins were awesome. My patty melt was prepared perfectly. My mom really enjoyed her lox and bagel. The Niagara Falls cake is a must and it is big enough to share. Will definitely go back.
An enjoyable evening with lots of menu choices and friendly service throughout our dinner. Itâs been a while since we have visited Maxâs so it was nice to know it is still a good place to enjoy a good meal with friends.
