This was my first visit to Meltham Fisheries, and the staff were really welcoming and friendly. I ordered a large fish with chips peas, the portion size was huge. Given that I had a fair distance to travel home, the staff also wrapped my meal foil so that it stayed hot. At home the meal was still hot and the potion size was huge, the complete meal was high quality and cooked in my opinion to perfection. I really enjoyed the food, especially the fish which was huge. I will certainly be visiting this shop again in the future. I cannot fault the service and quality of the food.
Got some fish and chips recently, after getting them home I peeled the soggy fish from the chips, losing the greasy batter in the process and put it on a plate. The fish batter was just a thin veil of grease around the fish, which was also greasy and tasted horrible. The chips were also soggy with black flecks, suggesting old oil. It was absolutely shockingly bad and ended up in the bin. It's not rocket science to make light crispy batter and half descent chips. No wonder why so many fish and chip shops are becoming extinct if this is the **** they serve.
I have had numerous fish and chips meals during my travels for work, but unfortunately, this was the worst one I have ever had. The batter on the fish was so soggy that it stuck to the paper it was wrapped in, creating a messy situation. The chips were overcooked, with some even burnt, and they were also swimming in grease underneath the fish. I must say, I am amazed at how they were able to make such subpar fish and chips. Overall, it was a complete waste of money.

I'd been in the local Optician and thought I'd try the local chippy for lunch, as a Lancastrian we miss out on the beef dripping so this was a rare treat. Beautiful fresh fish, thin crispy batter and tasty chips, lunchtime special a bargain at a fiver... I'll be back soon!
I was driving through Meltham and wanted food before carrying on further. Cold sandwich was not good on a cold day. I had a smell outside the fisheries and seemed ok. Went in for a fish and tea cake known as a fishwich. Very nice will call again.
I have visited this restaurant multiple times and the food is consistently excellent. The fish and chips here are the best in Meltham by far. It's rare to find fish and chip shops that know how to cook chips well, but these people definitely do.
Outstanding taste and value for a lunchtime special .Chips cooked in beef dripping are so much tastier than by other methods fish cooked to order friendly service and a regular customer bonus card too .We couldn't ask for more .
