A family member in France had recommended this out-of-the-way spot in some idyllic mountain valley country alongside a rolling stream, 30km from the famous Millau Viaduct as well as the centre of Roquefort cheese. The Prelorenzo lineage is just handing over to daughter as the 6th generation at this location. This is great country cooking. We ate there two nights in succession, and stayed in the modest simple hotel above with just 18 rooms. (That is very modestly priced, nothing fancy, and no wifi and very poor phone reception in the valley. There are no fads in the cooking, just great produce, perfectly cooked the old fashioned way. In fact a lot of the vegetables are grown within 500 metres...

This used to be a favourite place for our special eating occasions way back when Mr Mrs Papillon ran the restaurant. It has a magical setting and many good memories. However, our recent visit was a true disappointment. The usually polite service had evolved into mid range arrogance, and the expected delicious main course was over priced and over greasy, with the meat varying across the cut between uncooked and well done. What a shame. I hope the relatively new owners take a long look at the quality of their main courses, and the re training of the newer staff that serve.

It's our third time at Papillon we weren't disappointed, in fact every time it seems to get better. We selected the 20 Euros Menu, which is very interesting with local specialities and very well prepared, the cheese board is excellent with an array of local cheeses. there are other menus which are excellent. Service is charming and attentive, house wine is excellent and very good value for money, our table had an excellent view over the leafy river and the bridge. After lunch we were invited to relax in the chaise-longes by the pool.

a broad selection of good a la carte dishes and also set menus. Good value for money. Lovely ambiance, and the tables near the windows have very nice view of the Dourbie River. The staff is efficient and helpful. Wee worth a visit.
