How did this packed and quaint Italian pizza place manage to land next to one of the most derelict corners in San Francisco? We were drawn in by the warm glow coming out if this niche in the alley. It felt like we were dropped into a 1940’s Roman movie set. Rustic and authentic feeling. Like we were perhaps Italian locals just dropping in. Reservations for indoor tables are strongly recommended. And based on my opening sentence you should know that outdoor dining should not be considered. My friend and I went there earlier for lunch in May to see a show and we vowed to go back. The food is fresh, excellent, authentic and served with pride. Our server was fantastic. He admitted he had just started but you can tell he loved working there. It turned we were going back to the City and went for dinner. Same menu but still excellent. Lots of choices. The wine list is extensive and we ordered the Pinot Grigio. Excellent choice. The ambience is eclectic. Everything was great. Service and excellent price point.
Mostly I was thrilled to be able to get a reservation for 10 people with 2 days notice, so already very happy. The experience itself was also quite good. The food was all yummy, with lots of great options I didn't get to try. The service was on the slow side, but given this was supposed to be a leisurely meal, that wasn't too bad.
As always, the food at Montesacro downtown was tasty, well presented and offered out-of-the-ordinary choices. I was offered the choice of one of two tables, both in dir ect line with the open door. It was cold and breezy. I also find your metal chairs uncomfortable. I think I will bring my own cushion if I return.

Great food, nice ambiance and excellent service. The pizzas are delicious, very different ingredients, and nice flavor profiles.
Excellent lunch before the theater. Shared one of their delicious salads and a pinsa and a dessert between 2 people.
This wonderful place is a gem. Walk inside and feel the warmth, friendliness and joy. The food is fantastic!
