I hadn't visited this location in over twelve years, but I used to be a big fan of Max's Opera Cafe in San Francisco. The wait staff was exceptional, contributing to a wonderful birthday dinner for my mother, complete with a complimentary birthday sundae. The Turkey Club sandwich was tasty, and the salad was good as well. However, the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail lacked flavor and appeared off-color, and the cocktail sauce tasted like it came from a jar. But hey, nothing's perfect! The live jazz on a Monday evening was fantastic, and the atmosphere in the bar/restaurant was lively and enjoyable. I plan to return for a simple sandwich dinner with another alcohol-free beer and to enjoy the ja...

Me and a friend were staying in Burlingame for the week and we frequented Max’s several times. We discovered the Happy Hour menu a few days in and this was a fantastic option. Smaller offerings for a great price and still offering the full-menu flavor. The Fajitas were our favorite, but everything was well prepared. Friendly staff and excellent service. Reminded me of my small town-hometown feel where everyone knows your name. Shoutout to James, Fernando, and Alan who treated us like family and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.
I lived in the SF bay area for a very long time and used to love to go to the various “Max’s” restaurant in SF. I’ve been to the Burlingame location quite a few times and always enjoyed it. I decided to give it another try when I stayed at the nearby Hyatt Regency on a recent business trip and ordered the wonderful Cobb salad with Turkey. Still very good service and food. I know I’ll be going back during my next visit to SF! The salad was large enough to save about half and have it for lunch the next day!
I ordered two sandwiches while staying at a nearby hotel: the turkey club and the pastrami sandwich. The turkey club was decent, but the pastrami sandwich was inedible. It was dark brown and tasted like the meat was stale and just reheated. I highly recommend avoiding the pastrami sandwich. Additionally, the restaurant's customer service was lacking, and the food quality wasn't what I remembered from Max's. I won’t be dining in or getting takeout again. It's disappointing, but it's just not worth it. Book a table now
This restaurant is fantastic! The food is excellent, the atmosphere is delightful, and our waitress, Nicole, was exceptional. With a history dating back to 1978, this place has a lot to offer. Its location is very convenient, just a few steps from our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express. I definitely recommend this spot for dining in, taking out, or simply enjoying a drink and a warm smile.
I ordered the crispy carnitas, but strangely, they weren’t crispy at all. The waitress, however, was very friendly and attentive. Overall, my experience was just okay. I'm not sure I would make a special trip back. On a positive note, the bartender made an excellent old fashioned.
The food tastes great, though a bit pricey. The steak is excellent—perfectly sized, tender, and juicy. The pasta we ordered was also delicious. They have a special menu every Thursday, and there's plenty of parking available.
I stopped by just for dessert one day, and the brownie with a scoop of ice cream was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend checking this place out. It seems to be a favorite among the locals based on what I observed. Book a table now
My pan seared salmon was baked to perfection. And they subbed more sauted vegetables instead of potatoes. Perfectly seasoned. Definitely would order again. Wait staff is very friendly and masked up.
Food was good and mojito as well but bit pricy. Little bit of wait for both getting seated and food coming though it was worth trying.
