We ate here once for dinner and once for lunch. It’s a casual, friendly place frequented by locals as well as by tourists. We were able to eat outside the first night. Indoor seating was more appropriate next day due to rain. We were tempted by the German menu but eventually ordered from the American menu. We both had the prime rib special on Friday night. It was a nice change from seafood. The next day my clam chowder and house salad were just right for lunch in between activities. Service was good both times and the prices were very reasonable.
German cuisine and seafood in the same restaurant? Yes, indeed. The whole belly clam chowder is excellent and the regular clam chowder is quite good. Some like the lobster reuben and the lobster roll is quite good. Good burgers and fries but we haven 't been happy with the chicken. The German dishes are reliable and worth trying. It is a casual place and they allow dogs on the deck outside. On Sunday afternoons it is very crowded outback with live music and not enough places to park.
When I ordered my Guinness here, I specifically requested a slow pour. However, as I watched the bartender pour it like a Bud Light, I had to refuse the drink. I apologized to our server and left a generous tip. After we left, the bartender chased us down, insisting that he had been trained by Guinness and was pouring it correctly. I disagreed with him, and he stood firm in his belief that he was right. It left me feeling disappointed by his complete lack of customer service.
Delicious food! Whether you choose the German dishes or the seafood, both options are fantastic. We stopped by to pick up dinner after a day spent on Monhegan Island, and it was conveniently just a mile and a half from our cabin. The building may not look like much, but it was bustling with activity, which is a good sign! The staff were friendly and attentive. I especially enjoyed the haddock – it was outstanding!

It 's always our go to place when in Maine. We 've been here for Lunch and Dinner. We discovered a few years back and fell in love with the place. The food is so good, both the seafood and the German faire. A great location away from the touristy parts. We can 't wait to go back again this August, 2023. Those who are meant to be here, come here.
got the Lobster Club, it was good EXCEPT the piece of toasted bread in the center was BURNT black, I think the cook tried to hide it...i took it out and the rest was tasty. Husband had the famous Haddock chowder hard pressed to find haddock but he said it was a good potato soup. The bakery next door had delish blueberry turnovers!

The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding! However, I had a negative experience with the owner, which makes me hesitant to recommend this restaurant or return myself. On a positive note, the bakery next door, Schoolhouse Bakery, is fantastic!
