Portage House, located on the Indiana side of the Ohio, impressed me with their social distancing measures and protocol while still having a relaxed dining experience. Right now they are set up that you order at the bar with plexiglass keeping both you and staff as comfortable as possible. Eat inside the dining areas of the quirky converted house or on the wide, shaded front porch area, there's no wrong answer to enjoy that riverview! The night we dined in, there was a group who had reserved the upper dining area for a small party. While I would have loved to have peeked up there it's good to know you can reserve that space. Entree items range from $12-25 including sides. I can't decide whic...

Portage House is awesome! This spot offers indoor and outdoor seating, and their patio is where it's at. I love that you have a view of the river, and bridges, from the patio. It makes for a great dining experience! For our most recent dinner here I opted for the Vodka Cherry Limeade. This cocktail wouldn't normally be my go-to choice, but on the evening we visited it sounded just perfect, and it was. The vodka, cherry liqueur, and lime was perfectly refreshing and was the perfect compliment to my meal. We started with the Mac and Cheese Balls appetizer. They were served hot and fresh, perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. B opted for the Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich, wh...
The restaurants along the Ohio river keep knocking it out of the park. Dined outdoors despite it being a bit cool. We wanted to watch the wood float by on the river. Started with a couple of apple cider old fashioned whiskeys. If we didn't have to drive home (2 hours) we would have had at least 4 more each. They were amazing. With beautiful little cinnamon sticks in the glass. Goat cheese pita dip was the selected appetizer. If you go here and don't order the goat cheese, everyone will know that you're stubborn and probably not very intelligent. I had the shrimp and grits for dinner. They used risotto as the grit portion and that made it a full on entree. Absolutely fantastic. Highly recomme...
Came again on a Sat night around 6:30 with a group of four and were lucky to get one of the last tables outside on the patio. COVID era so things are different. No table service. You walk in and view the menu and order at the bar and they bring it out. Frankly, it worked well. Of course, you need to go back inside to get another drink or a refill for your water. We ordered the Goat Cheese appetizer $12). Pretzel bread was much lighter/minimal that expected but the cheese was fantastic. We all raved about the goat cheese. My daughter ordered the Smashed Diner Style Double Cheeseburger $17) and loved it. Her boyfriend went with the Fried Chicken Sandwich $16) and enjoyed it as well. My wife an... Book a table now
This place is so cute! I love the house that it's in. So much character and such a cool atmosphere. I dined here right prior to their closure during the pandemic, so there was very little seating and all of the tables were spread out. I didn't mind this at all! It wasn't particularly busy during the time we went. We sat upstairs by a window overlooking the river. It was such a peaceful dinner!
This charming historic home offers a lovely dining experience with both indoor and outdoor seating options, and serves up some unique dishes on its small menu. The service was top-notch, and the food was delicious. The grilled cheese with a fried egg on top was particularly delightful. We left feeling completely satisfied, and will definitely be returning in the future.
The food was fantastic, and the outdoor patio by the river was stunning. The service was excellent, but the only downside was that they had recently reopened the restaurant for dining after the pandemic, so draft beers were not available.
Clean, nice view, and fairly tasty food. Make sure to get there early for a good seat. The pork loins were a little salty in my opinion. Alcohol is a bit pricey too Book a table now
