While this is indeed a Japanese-run Japanese restaurant, I wouldn't say the fare is particularly 'authentic' or 'real'. That said, the word 'authentic' often gets abused in food reviews, among other arenas of life. I think a more accurate description of Rin would be "food typical of a small Japanese restaurant in the suburbs", which in itself, depending on your situation, may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Ordered Miso Ramen, which the soup is okay. A bit of Fad, could be thicker and aromatic. Grief

I admit this wasn't our first selection for dinner, but I'm glad we went here. The service is outstanding and there are so many meal choices to pick from. I got a sashimi platter which was well presented and fresh. Tasted superb. Wife got a variation with the miso soup and rice. The soup was spot on. This rates up there with my other favourite Japanese restaurant. Place is busy on weekends so I would recommend reserving a table. I would go back if I'm in the area again.

After driving down from Coles Bay to Hobart, we were looking for a Jap place for lunch. Read the reviews and decided to make our way there. Parking was along the road. The restaurant was small with a few tables but crowded. Service was friendly. Food was good. We had ten don, ramen and Udon. Ordered some sushi to share too. Very delicious the ten don and various types of tempura. I saw others having their set bentos. Seems quite decent too. Highly recommended.
I was not sure what was expected after reading most reviews. I was pleasantly surprised about the quality of the food. The Tempura Udon had a beautiful aromatized broth with crispy tempura, which had a generous filling. Many places today tend to go overboard with the dough, and they can not even taste what is inside. This is not the case with RIN. Would recommend it!
I've been to Rin many times, and always enjoy the food there (though I must say I don't vary my selection much)! It seems to be getting more popular, and as I usually go on the spur of the moment, I don't want to have to book!
Best Japanese dish of all time in Hobart! Local Japanese, environmentally friendly and delicious foods. Love spoon. ... sashimi is totally fresh, but the miso soup is too salty for me

Delicious food here. Miso soup was the best I had long. I also ordered the marinated beef-don, much delicious aroma and a lot of food. Friendly service, well cheaper.
