This was my third visit to Saké in Brisbane. Something has changed, not for the better. The food is now more like what a western chef might make Japanese food. It lacked the delicacy and finesse that so impressed me on my first two visits (and that was so lacking in the Sydney restaurant of the same name). Things did not begin well with the edamame that I ordered while waiting for my dinner guest - for some reason it was covered in nori powder which made for messy fingers and did nothing for the edamame (see photo). Why complicate a good Japanese dish? Made worse by the hard piece of plastic I found among the edamame. The remaining dishes were good but did not lift. Poke on a nori crispbread...

The food here was excellent. We have been disappointed by the sushi in Australia on more than one occasion but enjoyed everything we tried at Sake (sushi sampler, wagyu tartare, octopus, and of course sake), except maybe the edamame. Tasted fine, but was so messy covered in nori powder, it got annoying to eat. Beautiful decor. Was quite busy for a Wednesday night. Upscale, but they did not bat an eye when we walked in our tourist attire with our (admittedly well behaved -- but they did not yet know that) 5 year old. The only slight negative was our waiter did not seem that well informed. We had questions about sushi on the sampler that she could not answer. When we tried to reorder some of t...
Unfriendly, very slow service.I paid $155 for dinner for one on Sunday night..2 glasses of wine some oily Gyoza, the kingfish sashimi was good though..Agadashi tofu was okay. I ordered entree size snapper but was told when I got the bill that it was still the same price as main dish ($44).I don't care about the money so much if it's good but I waited at least 15 minutes to get my glass of wine both times whilst staff chatted with each other and cleared tablesThe manager or Matre D' had an air of superiority that I didn't find welcoming...I've been here before for family dinners but it's gone way down hill!I gave 2 stars because of location otherwise it would only just get 1..
Having visited Sake in Melbourne recently it was appropriate to check out Sake in Brisbane since the involvemenyt of Neil Perry.Despite the same receipe the food was not as good both in apprearance or taste.Service was a little 'spotty' as well with the need to walk to three server;s chatting among themselves to get soy sauce, essential for one of the meals ordered. The place is dark and faily gloomy.Sadly it did not meet what we had expected although still a good restaurant. Book a table now
I have been to Sake twice. both times it has been wonderful. The meals are delicious and presented perfectly. Food is timely and service all lovely. The atmosphere is very nice, no matter where you are seated. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is you have to order quite a few dishes in order to be full, which can be quite pricey here. So if youre not particularly hungry, this couldn't be more perfect!
So good. Every dish was delicious and surprising. The vegetables sang. I didn't think compressed daikon with shichimi togarachi seasoning would be an ingredient I would be thinking about with pleasure 2 hours after the meal. Wonderful, attentive service from all staff. The old fashioned cocktail is worth ordering for the theatre of it. I must go back to sample every dish.
Couldn't fault it, service was great and food even better. Popcorn shrimp amazing. Great views and location. We got the set menu and it was reasonably priced. They are also kid friendly, unlike expensive, pretentious Japanese restaurant Wasabi (check out their restaurant policies!).Will be back during our travels!
Had a great experience at sake. In Particular the pork chops and sushi was amazing. Had a great selection of sake and Japanese beers. My only criticism is that they changed the menu which does not include the swordfish anymore. All in all another superb experience at sake restaurant. Book a table now
Returned for a Friday lunch with close friends and Sake did not disappoint. Shared several dishes, sashimi, king fish, prawn popcorn, dumplings - all the food was excellent and the service attentive without being intrusive. Plus Sake carries the dark Asahi simply a great beer.
Terrific food with attention to detail. Worth the money. The craft beers were especially nice (one sweet potato beer that was too drinkable). Excellent service, the staff knew their menus, dish presentation and flavour were also exceptional.

"The pasta at this restaurant is fantastic, the service is good, but the prices are a bit on the higher side. The gnocchi was particularly delicious, but there are other more satisfying options available for the same price."
