From my seat, I noticed two people waiting at the door for service. Meanwhile, my waitress was leaning over the back counter on her phone, while another waitress helped my companion by bringing him another beer. After waiting a few minutes, I had to loudly call out for my waitress to assist the people at the door, which she did, and they thanked me.
Eventually, she brought our food, but then we waited quite a while for her to return. We wanted to order apple pie and cheesecake to go, but after waiting, she simply brought us the check. Met a group for a late breakfast, I was the last to arrive. The waitress came and asked me what I wanted to drink but did not offer a menu, had to ask for it. When our food came, we were one place setting short, had to ask for that too. I ordered a farmers omelet, the egg was very dry and completely unseasoned. The ham had a lot of grizzly bits that I had to spit it out in my napkin. The amount of chopped onion was unbelievable, I picked out over a quarter cup of onion and ate about the same. The onion was raw, cold and overwhelming, it ruined the dish. Toast was stone cold. I've had two other meals here, which I enjoyed, hoping that this was a one off.
Every small town has a Sam's or an equivalent there of. It is neither good not bad. It just is. They do make much of the menu from scratch and the breakfast is really good. It's neither hip or trendy . It's basic foods for those with a continental pallet. You've got your fried foods, your meatloaf, tuna melts and it's Michigan so there is some Coney thrown in there. The soups are made fresh which is nice and the salads are good. I hate country music. And fox news. So they got both of those going on.
Sam's Place feels like it stepped right out of a movie. I absolutely love visiting. Picture a classic diner from the 80s, and you've got Sam's. The service is incredibly quick and welcoming, and the menu features all the classic diner fare. They offer a nice selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. The prices are very reasonable, and your food usually arrives within 5 to 10 minutes.
