The "cook" had a flu - runny nose and an awful cough. She was coughing without covering her mouth over the food prep areas and wiping snot off her nose with her bare hands and then touching people's food without washing or sanitizing. The menu displays "fish" but when I asked what type of fish nobody knew. I took my order and threw it in the bin so I have no idea what it tasted like, I really didn't want to eat fish surprise and get a flu. KFC is right across the road, a safer option, cooked with hygiene and cheaper.
Excellent large juicy hamburgers made to order. They are so filing. There were only 2 ladies serving and they were going non-stop the entire time I was in the shop and there was a lot of phone orders coming through as well. I do think the lady in blue could have taken the time to lighten up and smile. She worked hard and efficiently but a friendly smile would have gone a long way.
I guess one would have to say it is better than average because of the numbers that go here but waiting time could be reduced considerably if management practices were reviewed. Too many people working in a small space, all getting in each other's way. Compared to other fish outlets, prices are about 60% more.
Grew up having sea shanty as our main fish and chips source! This has always been my favourite. We moved across country for a few years and couldn't find anywhere with fish half as good as Sea shanty! Finally moved back this year and went straight to SS. Don't change anything guys. Perfection on every level.

apparently, this place has the best seafood in the city. I must admit that the broken coral trout was absolutely delicious. over the street from the bowls club, it is a good opportunity to eat some really good seafood. it can be a lot to do during dinner, so I recommend a little earlier.
Stopping in Mackay on the way thru to Rockhampton stopped at what appeared to be the best local Fish and Chips { big crowd of people } Should have got KFC across the road then I would have accepted the oily food .Not a budget meal and so disappointed that I wasted my time and money.
I first went to The Sea Shanty 29 years ago Fresh food Always busy so that's a good recommendation Friendly professional staff I drive across town to go here Parking a bit iffy at times
Fish was excellent, gave poor review as person cooking food had a cold and made no attempt to cover mouth when coughing, luckily not over my food but others weren't so lucky.

great small fish and chip shop. the personal we are really friendly and eating was great. the best chips I had everywhere in a very long time.
