NOT A BENGALI restaurant, yet a friendly regular British food joint. I didn 't enjoy the bland food but I understand that the flavours were altered for Western palates. Why I am writing this review is because we had really gone all that way for a Bengali restaurant and there was nothing Bengali about the food. Not the South Indian papad (Bengalis have a whole range of fried foods), not the dry powered spices packed rice passed off as Biryani (not even Hyderabadi biryani), surely not the saag paneer (cottage cheese in spinach) which is a traditional north Indian dish but has a lot more character than just cottage cheese pieces tossed about in spinach lumps or stuffed parantha (another North I...
Unfortunately this restaurant has gone down hill of late. The food quality was fantastic but is slipping and I have now noticed they have reduced their portions sizes (containers were literally a quarter to half full) and limited the amount of meat in dishes ..think I spotted two pieces of lamb in my biryiani last time), still charging the same prices however!! The owner is also too tight to implement a delivery service which shows their lack of foresight and intention as a business. Unfortunately I am now going to other restaurants. A shame because it’s not the food just the standards and penny pinching
We have been going to Shaon for 20 years now, and it is our favourite takeaway to get. We have tried multiple other Indians nearby and not one has ever been close to Shaon. The food is the best, and the staff are so lovely and will always insist on walking your takeaway to your car for you. Abdul in particular is very talkative and friendly towards my family, and many of my friend’s family. We would recommend shaon to everyone, and our only wish is that shaon was on Deliveroo/just eat!! Very great service with very polite members of staff taking orders over the phone. The food was prepared a lot earlier then said over the phone which was very impressive for a Saturday night. The food was of high standard and i would recommend Shaon...to anyone who asks about it.
Popped in late last night just when we thought they were closing but they allowed us in. We had the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, both very good and generous portions. Staff are always super friendly, we will return. Apologies if we were a...little loud lol.
I had a wonderful dining experience at the restaurant. The food was delicious and enjoyable, the drinks were superb, and the service was polite and attentive. I will definitely be returning and am excited to experience the warm hospitality again.
