Would not be back!! Vile service from staff, after complaining about lasagne which was burned and inedible after declining it be remade (the rest of the table had finished eating it had taken so long of back and forth from staff member) who I assume as management approached the table to ask what was wrong and stated it would be remade I the pasta was so burned it was hard burned around all sides after explaining this and the fact it had taken long enough offered refund with attitude and processed to snatch the plate from under, as if I was in the wrong for wanting refunded his attitude was absolutely vile I am still waiting on an apology or any sort of acknowledgment of how bad the food look...
We had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant on 29/09. It was busy when we arrived, but we were seated at our reserved table promptly. The menu was extensive, with a number of options available on a '2 for £11.99' deal which was very good. We decided to order the low and slow beef rib for two. After waiting about 10-15 minutes, our food arrived and it was beautifully presented on a split skillet. This cut of beef can be quite fatty, but it was cooked perfectly and didn't feel greasy at all. The portion size was generous and we both just managed to finish it, leaving no room for dessert. The food at this restaurant was fantastic, with compliments to the chef and kitchen staff. The food was served quickly and hot, and I particularly enjoyed the steak and ale pie. It didn't seem like it had been microwaved, and the crust was still nice and crispy. My friends also enjoyed their meals, and the 2 for £11.99 deal was a great value. The staff were friendly and the drink prices were reasonable. We had a very pleasant time and will definitely be visiting The Shovels again.
Negative reviews may be ackgnowledged by this establishment, but the follow THEY request is ignored. I was treated VERY poorly by staff during a visit earlier this year with my two children and I complanied at the time, but was ignored. I left a negative review, which was ackgnowledged and I was asked to contact the venue directly by e-mail, which I did.. three times... and was then ignored again. It's a shame, as I used to be a regular visitor... but havent been back since this!

I visited this restaurant for the first time in years on a Tuesday evening in October for dinner. I was surprised by how busy it was, as we hadn't made a reservation, but we were able to get a table. Many tables were reserved, but there were still some unoccupied during our visit, which was a bit strange. It's probably best to book ahead even on quieter days. The restaurant itself is charming, with excellent staff and delicious food at reasonable prices.
I’ve been to the Shovels a few times now and it never disappoints. Friends and I went on Saturday especially as they had live music on that I’d seen advertised plus it was a friends birthday. Cheryl served us and sang happy birthday while bringing out a cake which was fun for us all. Other customers joined in also! What a great atmosphere we will definitely be going back.
Had a lovely meal at the shovels tonight. Was served by Tyler who was amazing. He's a real credit to your pub. Friendly attentive and not bad on the eyes. The food was also very good so we will be returning. Thank you.
We’re lucky enough to have this pub as our local. The team are fab and always friendly Robbie gets a special mention! Service and food is great
