Sideways is our local and we've been coming here for 10 years. In all that time I have never had a bad experience. Every meal is delicious and the service is friendly and professional Yes it's a little more than you might pay at a standard cafe. But this place is an institution. Set in a bustling, picturesque roundabout, near parks and transport it's location is part of the appeal.But hands down the number one reason to visit is the menu - especially the homemade cakes fresh everyday.
Food is excellent, though portions are a bit smaller than most other places. Coffee is hit and miss: sometimes on the money, sometimes bitter. Service is slow on occasion: staff seem to breeze past you without taking your order for sometime - even though there are adequate staff to cover the smaller number of customers. But I always go back because they offer a reasonably good experience though on the pricey side given locale: toasted ham sandwich for eat-in is $12.50.
The food here is always well presented and delicious. I have tried many things on the lunch menu but can't go past the fabulous all day breakfast menu. The biggest issue is deciding what to order. Don't want a meal? Try the amazing cakes and sweets, or maybe scones, jam and cream. My personal favourite is the lumberjack (Apple and date cake) served with ice cream. To top that off the service is outstanding and there is a cheerful, buzzy, atmosphere.
Met up with cousins for a breakfast catch up. I was there early and found a vacant table outside. Service was great, and didnt have to wait long for a coffee. When the others arrived we ordered and again didnt have to wait long. The food was amazing, the service brilliant and the price spot on.
