The venue has been recently made over and is very pleasant inside. The staff were very friendly. However, the food was very hit and miss. I definitely ordered the wrong thing smoked salmon and toasted pine nut salad. How can anyone go wrong with that?? Well, they can! This was a bowl full of lettuce leaves, not so much dressed as drenched with oil, possible one whole sliced spring onion might have been half of one some pine nuts, not toasted, and around 4 slivers of poor quality smoked salmon. I managed to eat the salmon and a few forks full of soggy leaves before admitting defeat. I then had the privilege of paying £11 for that! Disappointed really as this pub was one I frequently attended 54 yeas ago when their steak sandwiches were to die for. I took my husband as the menu on the website looked promising and he was looking forward to the steak. However although the surroundings were great and the service was very good the menu we were offered was the summer menu not the one advertised. My Husband chose the steak kebab and satay sauce with flat bread? Although the steak was good the satay sauce was too liguidy and lacking in flavour and a salad was served on top off the flat bread not really presented well. When our friends recommended this restaurant to our group of four, mentioning a recent change in management, we had high hopes for excellent service and food. Unfortunately, we were left feeling disappointed. The meat was overcooked, the vegetables were also overcooked to the point where texture and flavor were lacking, and the presentation did not add to the experience. The owner/manager/chef's attitude towards feedback and complaints was dismissive and abrupt, making the overall experience one we would rather forget. I always like to give a new restaurant with new owners a couple of chances as I believe everyone can have an off day. The first time we visited in February, my husband had the mussels which were really good. Unfortunately, I ordered the fish and chips and found the fish to be greasy and placed on top of the chips, making everything oily. Not a good experience. Today, we decided to have Sunday lunch at the same place. We started with vegetable soup and toast. The soup was thick, cold, and quite bland, served with untoasted white sliced bread. We asked for the bread to be toasted, but when it came back out, my husband found a full stock cube in his soup. The bread was only toasted on one side....

We all arrived at 12.45pm and were booked in for 1pm. They didn’t take our order until 1,45pm and it didn’t arrive till 2,15 pm. My pork belly was so overcooked I couldn’t chew it and the crackling was completely soft.the only nice thing about the food was the roast potatoes which were amazing. They asked if we wanted dessert and three of us said can we get it straight away as our car park was up at 3,20pm. They said yes but at 3,20pm it hadn’t arrived so had to go. They tried to make me pay for a dessert I hadn’t had which I refused and told them to cancel it. They got quite nasty. Our group of 15 will never go there again.
We had a buffet lunch for our choir and friends (a group of 34) who were singing at the Cathedral services. We had limited time between services to eat, but Craig and his team provided us with a great buffet and were very accommodating. They even gave us takeaway boxes for leftovers, which was much appreciated for our long drive home. They reserved a section just for our group and were extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. I would recommend them to anyone looking to host a similar group event.
We were here for Mother Day celebrations but unfortunately the occasion was spoilt by the awful service quality of the food. The fish was supposed to be unwrapped in front of you, it wasn’t, the Welsh lamb rump was massively under cooked the roast potatoes were definitely not roasted.We waited nearly 30 minutes between the starter main course, unacceptable.A complementary bottle of wine was offered to us but unbelievably it had already been opened used.We definitely do not recommend this restaurant.
Dissatisfied with our lunch. Due to a hot day went for the salads. Which was tasteless, three small pieces of salmon, and dried up chicken on the Caesar salad. Noone came to our table so went to the bar to pay. Greeted my the owner who I informed of our dissatisfaction. He said did you tell anyone I said no one had come to ask us. At this point he walked off. No compensation or a drink to smooth things over. Would not recommend this ,and will not be going again.

Lovely. This place jas just reopened, and me, my boy, wife and the in-laws tried it. It was really nice! Brilliant portions, staff couldn't do enough, even gave my boy free ice cream. Will definitely go back. Only feedback (not a complaint, feedback) is that the food could have been a bit hotter, but it's week 2. Place has definitely got potential! See ya again soon.
