We hired a room for a 21st birthday at the weekend and it was nothing but hassle from the beginning. Staff were so rude and unhelpful. As soon as we mentioned not using their caterers they become so blunt with us, told us we had to take all of our rubbish on the night! The reason we use our own caterers was due to their rule of ordering the same amount of guests as food per head, which is very restrictive considering there is always drop outs… just seems like money grabbing. I rang to check if I could drop some decorations off the evening before including balloons as it was a surprise birthday so didn’t need the hassle on the day (couldn’t access the room until 4pm on the day of the party so...
Absolutely awful experience. We came out as a family for Mother’s Day and pre booked our meal 2 weeks prior. We arrived and got seated at our table, we waited 30 minutes and not one person came over to us. I went over to the bar and explained the situation and a waiter came over and said the manager said we could have a round of free drinks. After this we continued to wait a further 30 minutes for our staters. They were absolutely awful. The soup was full of pepper and nothing else, the mushrooms had no sauce, the halloumi was horrendous and looked awful. We've been going to the sticky wicket for a number of years, and enjoyed it. I note the restaurant is under new management. We booked a table on 6th August for 7pm. Arrived and told to just go in and choose a seat. Fine. Young girl came shortly afterwards and asked what we wanted. Menus would be good. She brought menus, and we ordered. It wasn't busy that night. My wife and I booked for a meal on Sunday 11th July just for the 2 of us as due to covid rules we were unable to have a larger gathering On entering we were told that they didn't have a record of our booking no big deal as the place was nearly empty I ordered drinks and the waitress came back to me to say that they needed to take my credit card and leave it behind the bar something I was not prepared to do I have never been asked to do this before as normally you are able to pay at the end because of this I had to pay for the meal upfront The worst part was the food I ordered the Sunday Roast Beef! Been coming to Ruskin for years watching our kids play footy rugby but lately it seems to have gone downhill. Bar prices are extortionate, even a can of coke is £2.50! Really…. Maybe paying for the Spa refurb? Can’t even get a sausage barm sat inside as they want you to go the kiosk outside (prices there gone up too) I presume as they only want you to order higher end items on the menus. It would be nice to sit inside as we have done many times whilst the kids are warming up and have a tea in an actual cup and a nice hot sandwich. Kiosk couldn’t offer anything other than a greasy pie either at 11.30. No lids for hot drinks so cold in a couple minutes. Coffee machine not working. Poor service...
Appalling service, food took far too long considering the lack of tables eating around us. It appeared the place was ran by under-experienced young girls, who definitely would benefit from some basic training in customer service Sunday roast probably one of the worst i’ve had, just all thrown onto a plate and all meals missing at least one thing stated from the menu: Table, booth seats, cutlery and floor was filthy. Would definitely give this place a miss if you’re considering it.
We booked the restaurant for a large family event on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was lovely and the service was excellent. I don't live in the UK anymore but grew up around here and have many happy memories of Ruskin drive. I was pleased to see that it was largely the same as I remembered it, with some improvements. When we return to St Helens in the new year I will definitely be eating here.
Went here around Christmas time and had the roast which was Delicious, hot food and fast service. Was served by a young lady called Amelia who was extremely polite and made us feel very welcome
