We visited with family on a busy Friday night for drinks and food. The place was full, buzzy but well managed with good service. Our older family members enjoyed watching the action though it was a bit too noisy for a lot of conversation. The security guard outside was friendly and helpful as I was waiting to help an older relative arriving late by taxi to find our group. We all ordered bar food for starters to go with our drinks. The test of good bar food is good hot chips. Our big basket arrived hot but the chips were dry. Disappointing. Frozen obviously but well below par. Thought we 'd enjoy a cheap cheerful pub lunch the other day decided to visit the Bay Hotel, Maroubra first time, based on menu pricing food standard, the last time. $46 for 3 crumbed lamb cutlets .... $52 for a small eye fillet steak seriously !!!!!!!!! i can attend any number of excellent local restaurants enjoy a fine lunch/dinner for significantly less. The dining area lacks atmosphere, the food is pedestrian (i had the chilli prawn linquini totally underwhelming, gelatinous offering). whilst the position is near Maroubra Beach, it does not afford any views of distinction. Overall summation go elsewhere, pay less for a better meal
The food definitely catered to the masses with nothing of a stand out flavour and therefore nothing that would make me want to go back or recommend it. It was quite pricey for what I received which was meant to be the ‘special’ which was a curry. The curry looked good on presentation but could easily have been fed to a child.
I was slightly too late for there still to be sun on the outside tables but beachside pubs are a rarity in Sydney so the beachy interior is still worth a visit. Prices are high and there's an undisclosed card surcharge but it's reasonable for the beach.
