I was looking for somewhere to meet up with my children over the festive period. After a short search on Tripadvisor I found the Corner Cupboard. I was the first to arrive and was greeted warmly by the staff. I said a small group of us would be eating and they moved tables to accommodate us. A fine selection of real ales and a well stocked bar. When my children and partners arrived we settled down to great choices on the menu. We were not rushed to choose and soaked in the atmosphere of the place. We had the Liver and Bacon, a ploughman’s, lasagne, fish and chips and ham egg and chips. All well presented and tasty. No complaints! A couple of us went for the dessert menu and were not disappoi...

We have dined at this restaurant before and have always had a pleasant experience. Therefore, we decided to have lunch with friends here after a planned walk. Unfortunately, when we visited last Monday for a quick drink, we were informed that the restaurant was closed for a private function (a funeral wake) and that it typically does not open on Mondays, despite their website stating otherwise. We called ahead and made a reservation for today (Thursday) at 1:15, as 1:00 was not available. Upon arrival, we ordered drinks at the bar and were informed by a polite waitress that there would be a delay in receiving our food as three other tables had yet to order. Despite having a reservation, the...

I honestly don’t understand the good reviews. My husband and I had to find the funny side. We came in, no lights on, no music completely lifeless. Waitress eventually came over to give us menus (heavy breathing in my husbands ear) We had to order drinks at the bar. We ordered our food, she said “people come far and wide for our fish and chips” umm….i highly doubt it. Our food arrived, probably the most basic food I’ve ever received. Our 1 year old even refused to eat it. No extra drinks were offered. We were the only people in the restaurant so bad service was unnecessary. We watched the staff chat at the back of the restaurant for our entire meal. The “chef” was in her tracksuit smoking her...

What a fab little place. The bar on the way in from the front was bustling to the point you couldn’t move, after shuffling through we realised we could’ve come in the back garden entrance. The staff were absolutely lovely, thei one lady I can’t remember her name was so thoughtful to our old dog. Got her a blanket for the floor so she wouldn’t be cold whilst we ate. We came in for dinner and it didn’t disappoint, so much so that we booked in for Sunday Lunch. Honestly I’m not sure who they have hiding in the kitchen but it’s someone magical, every bite was just a delicious as the next. Can’t wait to visit again. Book a table now

Slightly bizarre experience. Service was prompt if a little unfriendly. My food was not good. It did not include a key item and when I complained I was told that I was wrong (I wasn 't) and that their food is the the best in the area (it isn 't). I didn 't want a refund, just an apology. It 's a shame, this was my third visit in 2 years but the first since the new management took over. Previously it had been a great place, I hope that my experience was just teething troubles

Popped in for an evening drink with my two sons, having been at the Christmas market(? in the town. The olde worlde exterior with its (currently Christmas trees drew us in. It's similarly charming inside, with friendly locals and helpful staff. There's a great selection of beer too, with a nice pint of London Pride, but also more contemporary stuff such as Neck Oil and Peroni. Archetypal English pub; if that's what you like, visit.

A lovely friendly pub with great food and excellent staff. My friends and I had a nice lunch here and returned the next night for an excellent dinner! I unwittingly dropped my purse while at the Corner Cupboard and didn't miss it until the next day. I went back to see if anyone has found it and to my surprise and pleasure, was told that the land lady had taken the purse home and had posted it to me. Now that what I call service!

The service was very good as was the food. The portions were very large so you felt you were getting good value for your money. We were visiting the area but from what people were saying, it is very much used by locals which is always a good sign. Will definitely return. Book a table now

Had a busy day with a lot of driving and were staying locally. Visited the CornerCupboard and had a wonderful meal. The staff were brilliant especially 16 year old 'Alfie 'who is destined for a top catering post.
