Arrived to be shown to a table in a waiting area. Nice surrounds. Ordered drinks here and food. Got settled with the kids and their activities. Then waitress arrived to let us k ow our table was ready. I had seen when others were taken to their table, the waiting on staff took their drinks for them. The waitress told us our table was ready then quickly walked off. We were left trying to gather our coats, bags, colouring books and drinks, then trying to find to rush after the waitress. Disappointed we arrived to a very impressive looking pre dinner reception and had high hopes. We were gestured to a table in the dining room as the lady passed without pausing to even look at us, which was in a dark area of the crowded lack lustre restaurant. There was no atmosphere the tables were very close together not even a candle on the table to improve the ambience. The food was okay but average for the prices £250 for 5 and a child with only one dessert and 2 coffees. Been twice and both times our bill was wrong. First time and extra meal was added and today extra drinks. I know that mistakes can be made and always accept that, but on both occasions, when the waitress was told, they acted very rudely, walked away and returned with amended bill which was thrown down onto the table with no apology and we were made to feel bad about challenging it. Today we had to send the bill back a 2nd time as they took a cheaper drink off the bill instead of the more expensive (difference of £7, fist time it £12). Discovered this fabulous restaurant 200 covers ! last October. We come North for the National Print Finals of the PAGB, most Octobers. This is a well hidden gem. How such a large restaurant is tucked away behind a row of suburban houses I never know. With an Italian man in our party we were steered to a special Italian dish of Veal Fillets in a delicious dark sauce. Heavenly. Desserts featured Panatone, Home Made Apple Crumble, with Creme Anglaise. Macchiatos all round to close. Oh, and some complimentary, home made, Lemoncello courtesy of our resident Italian. Spoilt. Very poor on the vegetarian meals , starters had a reasonable choice but the mains were very disappointing, not one special was vegetarian, I asked the waiter , he told me there was lots of choice , vegi lasagna, vegi pizza or penne in a tomato sauce , seriously it’s 2023 not 1970 . Lots of Italian food is vegetarian not vegan , they need to up their game . The staff were lovely ,especially the young man in the bar on arrival ,very helpful and chatty. Visited for the first time yesterday for a late lunch with my husband to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. The dining room was busy, and the atmosphere was buzzing. All the staff were attentive and courteous. The food was plentiful and delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will be back with our Daughter, Son-in-law and baby Grandson on 29th Dec to celebrate husbands birthday.
