Jimador on Velasco in Freeport exceeded my expectations. I hadn't intended to eat here, but after dropping off my Jeep at Miles Auto, I decided to walk over from across the street. In my experience, and based on my mother's recipes, this is truly the best Mexican food I've had outside of my own home. It's no surprise that the place is bustling at lunchtime, filled with Hispanic workers from the nearby industrial shops. El Jimador never disappoints. It’s straightforward, fast, and offers a warm, inviting atmosphere. The food is consistently served hot and in generous portions, and I can’t get enough of their enchilada gravy! This spot is perfect for a quick lunch, delivering just the right flavors. I really hope it sticks around for a long time because it's an effortless choice for tasty food at a fair price, coupled with great service.
The food is okay, but the restaurant is dishonest. They intentionally overcharge on the bill, adding several dollars to each meal. I visited a second time to watch closely, and they did it again. Their prices don’t match what’s on the menu—they make up their own. I would avoid this place.
My fondest memory of arriving in Freeport was enjoyable, but this time was different. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything I liked about my experience. None of the three dishes stood out to me, and the flavors were lacking. I’m sorry to say it, but that’s the honest truth.

Neighbor Restaurant offers great prices, a fun and friendly staff, and a funky atmosphere. Although my first choice wasn’t available, my second choice exceeded my expectations, and the beer was really cold. I will definitely come back during my next fishing trip!
It's challenging for any business to thrive with rising costs. I've visited The Jimador Taqueria Y before, and the service remains consistent or even better. However, due to a lack of customers, even good restaurants struggle to stay open.
I placed an order over the phone, but the service was very slow. The food tasted like it was cooked in old grease. I ended up having to go home and make myself vomit. My stomach is still upset.
If I'm ever back in Freeport from Houston, I would definitely visit again. To the guy with the Charro beans, just ask for another cup!
