We came to the Royal for my friends birthday as had previous good experiences here.It was Saturday night and I had forgotten about the fact you can't book a table but we happily had a drink at the bar to wait for a table. They gave us a table in a very noisy spot, between the kitchen and a long table with a large group. But that was fine once we adjusted too.The wait staff were all great and professional as per usual. However no water was brought to our table until we finally offered to buy some sparkling and even then, we were given no cups until after our mains were served which was quite a long wait. We just ate at the Royal today. We ate there once before and it was average but gave it another go. We had the carbonara which was bland. It had little bacon and wasn't creamy. The only reason we ate it was because my salad was so bad and I didn't eat. I had the calamari salad. I had 2 bites and left the rest. It was the worst presented meal and also tasteless. There was no salad dressing and when I asked for some salad dressing I got oil. The salad was just a plate of iceberg lettuce and the odd bit of rubbery calamari and a few bits of artichoke and olives. I'm a local and love having this place as an option to dine at.There is no TAB here so one can't have a punt but there is plenty of sport on the telly's if that's your thing in the bar area. Food is always of a good standard and I've happily recommended The Royal to family and friends for an informal night out.This visit I had the meatballs for entree and a pizza for main. 10 out of 10 for my meals.After dinner Dad wanted an Irish coffee which he rarely manages to get when he goes out. Came for a weeknight dinner with a friend & could not fault the food, it was all very yummy. Service however was terrible, twice i tried to order a second drink from our waitress (didn't know her name) only to have her be in such a rush to walk away i got cut off twice. Then odered a dessert and very clearly ordered 1 chocolate tart and said we were sharing! When it arrived the guy brought out 2 tarts, we told waiter that we only ordered 1 to share & his response was 'oh well it's made now'. Both of us left half eaten desserts as we only could eat the 1 we tried to order. Then disappointly we were charged for 2 when we clearly only ordered 1...... not good service at all tonight.

Family went to The Royal last night for an Italian dinner. We were not disappointed with the food, the service or the ambience. The service from the young woman who served us was superb - great manner and nothing was a problem even though we asked the music to be turned down a notch and we had a birthday cake. The meals were great and I loved my red wine. It was very busy with couples, groups and families including at the table next to us a family with well-behaved young children who enjoyed their meal. The busyness did not affect the service at all. We would definitely go back - perhaps next time on the Jazz Night on a Thursday.
had a work dinner there last week, i was very hesitant in going as my last 2 experiences were very average. and unfortunately i was right again. meals came out they had no idea who ordered what. 4 people didn't even get their meals. the rest of the table was almost finished before they got theirs. it was a large table but still no excuses. food disappointing again. will not be back for a 4th time
My wife and I are regular visitors to the Royal for all the right reasons they serve excellent Italian cuisine and the service is efficient friendly and sincere. Good food and drink at reasonable rates in a great atmosphere
Our family of 3 enjoyed an early dinner and we're pleasantly surprised at the new decor, friendly staff,and amazing choice of meals. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be eating there again.

Even though it was packed, the staff were so lovely and accommodating and our meals were timely and delicious. My partner and I had a wonderful time :)
expensive wine line is very overpriced, menu doesn't change. the staff are nice enough specials are not very varied from menu
