From the outside this is a quaint old pub. Offering a wide variety of cask, keg ales and ciders with a further vast array of bottled and canned beers. A very well stocked bar. Alas the food was a bit of a disappointment. The prospect...of Beef stew and dumplings were so tempting after walking around Harrogate in the cold. It was a rather small portion (which I ended up being thankful for as the meat was really quite tough and the dumplings quite claggy My partner had fish and chips which were very nice, lovely crispy batter and nicely cooked chips. However, the mushy peas had obviously been left too long on the pass as the top were dried out and crusty. Overall the service had been good but...
Many people who visit Harrogate walk a little further down the road to a very old local pub.... I'm not saying you should visit the other pub, but if you like your beer in a great pub with amazing staff, just do yourself a favor...and drop into The Old Bell. The beer is top-notch, the choice is excellent and I have to say I have one of the best pints ever in this pub. They also do bar snacks, burgers, and a take on a fish finger sandwich, which I would highly recommend. I also want to mention the staff there. Hey, they chat with you as if you're a long-time friend. What a fab. bunch they are. So, take a moment to sit in the Old Bell, have a pint and a natter.
We had a wonderful Sunday lunch with our friends this weekend and can’t rate The Old Bell highly enough. Refurbished in the Tavern is contemporary and fresh but still hints to its year history. There is a fantastic choice of cask craft...ales a great selection of gins. Oh its doggy friendly too! The food was served quickly, fresh hot! Our whole party enjoyed the Roast Beef Sunday dinner, followed by a couple of desserts with some extra spoons! Don’t worry about portion sizes here! We had attentive service throughout, a big thank you to all the staff that took care of us today. We can’t wait to come back to sample more of the menu!
Visited with my wife after a long gap from an earlier poor experience. Some things had improved. Certainly the staff were more on the ball, bordering on OTT at times. But can't fault them for trying. The beer selection and quality was good. But early...in our time there, when it was very quiet, the chap who seemed to be in charge thought it fine to play YouTube videos on his phone at quite a loud volume to his colleagues, followed by the inevitable raucous laughter. Later, when it was rather busier, he enjoyed singing loud songs to his colleagues, competing in volume and content with the bar's sound system. Such a shame.

Been a while since we had lunch here and noticed new staff and new slightly reduced menu. We had a friendly greeting and had beers from their very extensive range. Ordered the steak and ale pie and the burger. All very happy with meals but...they could have been a bit hotter and served on warmer plates. The flat white coffees could have been a bit stronger and again hotter! A very busy place and is usual at the moment in hospitality a bit understaffed but this would not deter us from returning in the near future. Harrogate centre has very few traditional pubs so this is a gem and hopefully always keep its character.
Came here with my family for a meal and a few drinks one Friday night. We were greeted immediately, politely and staff were very accommodating and friendly. We ordered our drinks and meals which came in no time at all! I ordered the chicken and...vegetables which was seasoned lovely, tasty and filling. My mother ordered fish and chips and my father ordered a burger and salad... Both agreed meal was delicious and great value for money. Very excited to return! Thank you to everyone for such a lovely evening! PS would have given it stars if it sold peach schnapps/archers (my favourite drink)
It’s got stars as the beer was good and the service was excellent the food however was terrible the beef with dumplings so bad I can not describe black holes were less dense than these dumplings pasta which came minutes...after was bland and tasteless Avoid
Normally find the beer here good, but this time I had to return a pint of Porter as off. To be fair the staff agreed and gave me a replacement pint. Still a great pub to pop,into if you want somewhere quiet with a good...selection of real ales.

The staff were so accommodating, even bringing dog water bowl and biscuits for out small dog, excellent beer selection and DELICIOUS food (the chips were so lush If we were local, we’d be regulars for sure!
