On our road trip up the coast from Melbourne to Sydney, we made a pit stop at Bateman’s Bay, a premier oyster-farming region. The Oyster Shed is a small shack perched on the edge of the Clyde River where you can purchase just harvested oysters by the bag or the dozen. For a couple of dollars more, you can get them shucked and even enjoy them on the deck looking out onto the pier. This is such a perfect oyster eating experience. The Oyster Shed supplies rock and Pacific oysters. The rock oysters are smaller and more intense in flavour. The Pacific oysters range in size from standard to supreme to jumbo to super jumbo (you have to see these to believe them). The proprietors are so friendly, he...

This is a blind review or more a review of the location because massively disappointingly Wray's Oyster Shed has been closed during our holiday due to recent bad weather hindering the oyster harvesting. What I can say is that this non descript little shed on the banks of the Clyde maybe the closest thing in the state to the Cajun seafood shacks found in fishing communities in southern American states. Admittedly they're just doing oysters here but at a buck a piece and you sit out on the river enjoying them. They've shelled so many oysters at Wray's they've made a beach of the shells along the river and also use them to fill in potholes on the dirt track that winds along the north bank of th...

Fresh oysters at Wray Street Oyster Shed. This place is a bit of a walk in on Wray Street, but keep walking and you won't miss it. I got a dozen large oysters for $20. They are fresh and tastes of the ocean with a bitter aftertaste. It is different from the other fresh oysters I have had which did not have an aftertaste. These oysters are an acquired taste. There was no sand or grit in them. Personally, they are not my style, but don't let that deter you, the oysters are fresh. :

Amazing oysters, we had half dozen Sydney rock medium size and half dozen pacific large. We also got the mandarin mint dressing and lemon tahini dressing to go with it. Highly recommend stopping by this oyster shed as part of your south coast tour or oyster trail.
