This used to be our favourite pub in Chester, and we have stayed here twice. However we 've been out of the country and thus not been here since 2019. It is not the same. Went for an evening meal. Beer (brewed on site and admittedly very good was £5.50 per pint which is about £1.20 £1.30 over the odds for this part of the country. Very limited menu with fish and chips at £17.95 (again ridiculous price locally . We had decided to 'suck it up ' (we had booked, after all but then they told they 'd run out of chips! How can a pub run out of chips? Admittedly manager(? was politely apologetic. It 's a city cente pub and was very quiet at 8pm on a Tuesday evening no surprise. A place to be avoided...

What a great place would highly recommend we had a Sunday roast we hadn't booked but they found us somewhere, the food was amazing and the service was great, we also booked a room early in the year but had to leave after only 30 mins one of our children were ill, I contacted them to see if there would be anything they could do as we had just paid for the room. Again nothing was to much trouble I spoke to one of the guys and they revoked us in for my birthday in December free of charge as a good will gesture, I can't wait to stay and try more beautiful meals and beer 5 star
Glad to have found this stunning old Inn on the last day of our short Chester stay. From the moment we walked in on the evening of 28.7.23 we were amazed by the interior and ambience in the pub. Loads of rooms to be seated in. We sat near the bar by the open sash windows and revelled in the decor. They also brew their own beer in the basement and very it was too. Such a shame this visit was on our last night in Chester as my wife and i would have visited a few more times. Great pub!
Stayed here for 3 nights to attend the open golf championship at Hoylake. The room we had (24) was lovely. Spotlessly clean. Wonderful shower and lots of hot water. The bed was comfortable. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We ate at the pub on the first evening the food was lovely and freshly prepared. Eton mess was delicious. The breakfast was great and a great portion. Nothing was too much trouble. Had a lovely stay and would definitely book again if we ever needed to. Book a table now
Such a shame as stayed here previously couple year ago and had a lovely stay but this time was disappointing room was tiny, tv was tiny, no iron in room, there was a dirty cup, water in kettle, stained pillowcase, hair clump on carpet, not a comfortable pleasant stay. Love the convenience of the place being in town centre but have definitely been put off by this stay
We stayed at the pied bill in Chester for our wedding anniversary and to say it was over priced was an understatement paid £185 firstly the pictures on website don’t look like the rooms it was noisy/hot and we cud hear ever word the couple in next room were saying. Absolutely no privacy. Complained and told email the manager. Horrendous uninteresting never again
A lovely oldie worldie pub was a pleasure to stay here. In the very centre of chester and you can walk out and straight onto the old chester walls. Thought it would be noisy above a pub but there wasn’t any noise at all!! Rooms are very clean. Didn’t eat here so can’t comment but beers were good
Booked a night here as we were visiting Chester to go to a show at the Storyhouse theatre. Didn’t realise how close it was! Lovely quirky and authentic inn. Loved the slightly creaky floorboard and slanting stairs all adds to the quirkiness. Will certainly stay here again. Book a table now
Tourist trap. You will pay over the odds for a meal or a pint in this Oak Beamed Hotel. Lunch menu £17.95 for a single course and £5.50 for a pint of John Smith's Bitter. Locals seem to avoid the place as other premises are a lot cheaper. The choice is yours.
Stayed for 2 nights and ate on secind night. Really nice food, better than usual 'pub grub '. Service was great, wouldn 't hesitate to return.
