I have been to the water mill many times now for breakfast and lunch. There is normally always quite a wait for food and drinks but when we have had our food it’s always been enjoyable. This time we were told there would be a 40min wait on food which we said was fine. After an hour of waiting and trying to entertain our little one I decided to ask if we could have our food to go and my 1 year old had started getting impatient and restless. Was looking forward to the reopening of this quirky and quaint village, tearoom located in an old mill, but our visit was extremely disappointing. It now doubles up as a tea room (daytime) and Italian restaurant (some evenings) and has lost all its quirkiness and charm. The once beautiful wooden service area is now covered in glitter and a black cage and is more in keeping with Soho than a sleepy village. The seating arrangements, Formica tables and fake leather chairs, do nothing to enhance the atmosphere. On the plus side, the catering staff haven’t changed and the food is as good as ever, however, some of the staff could do with a few lessons in customer service.
The staff at the restaurant were welcoming and seated us promptly, despite being early. The starters and main course were served quickly, perhaps too quickly, but were tasty. When asked if we wanted desserts, our group of six requested a break, which was accommodated by the staff. However, when we finally ordered desserts and coffees, the desserts took too long to arrive. When inquiring about the delay, a man made inappropriate comments about us leaving quickly. This behavior was unacceptable and has deterred me from returning to the restaurant, despite the other staff members being pleasant. It is a shame because aside from this incident, we had a lovely evening.
Six of us went out for a birthday dinner at this restaurant. The food was inconsistent and when we pointed it out to the waitress, she chose to argue instead of acknowledging the error. Eventually, the issue was resolved and we were refunded for the overcooked pork. Unfortunately, I fell ill with possible shellfish poisoning from the mussels appetizer. Despite not being able to prove it, I exhibited all the symptoms and was quite unwell. As a result, we have chosen not to dine at this restaurant again.

Oh dear!!! Over booked and over stretched and no one seemingly in charge… Father’s Day treat gone horribly wrong and not just our table of 8 either… Real shame as the setting is great and the food (when it eventually arrived) was excellent… Restaurants don’t run themselves… this one does… hence the poor service and general chaos… Avoid parties over 4 and maybe just stick to watering and feeding Cyclists..
Nice surroundings but goats cheese salad left a lot to be desired! Salad leaves were inedible and smallest amount of crumbled goats cheese. Was told salad was fresh that day but it was turning black. Didn't want to eat it in case it made me ill. No offer of reduction when I paid the bill. Definitely a meal to avoid!
The restaurant was located by the river and had a beautiful ambiance. The staff was extremely friendly and the steaks were delicious. They had a great variety of sauces available for the steaks, which we really enjoyed. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning in the future.
The food isn't too bad, but the service was poor. We'll give it another go as it's such a pretty venue we've been going for years over several ownerships it was a bit disappointing this time although it could easily be better next. More, experienced, waiting staff would do it.

The new management and staff at this restaurant are extremely friendly, and the menu offers a wide selection of options. I highly recommend stopping by for lunch, dessert, or a delicious Italian dinner.
First time for breakfast had a lite bite in the garden service was wonderful served by Glenda truly delicious you must try it and great value for money.
