This was my second visit here and though I don 't recall specifics of my first visit I recall enough to say that between that time and this visit, I won 't make it back here again if it 's my choice. This evening I met a friend for dinner and a drink. On arrival we were one of three tables and there was one person sitting at the bar. There was one server and what appeared to be a trainee for the entire front of the house, including the bar. When our drinks arrived, the server spilled a bit and wiped her fingers on my friend 's purse. My drink was served in a visibly dirty glass and remade without complaint when I requested it. Our dinner menus were removed about 5-10 minutes into seating our...

1501 Monroe Street, Madison, WI 53711, United States Reservation"We had breakfast here for the past 4 days and I must say it was really good everyday. Though make sure you have some time on your hands as it can be slow at times. Latte and cappuccino were good and the guacamole sandwich which can be customized is really good. Fresh fruits as always and the chef and servers are really friendly and very good. Overall a wonderful experience. Also on a side note: stay at HotelRED and get breakfast at the wise!! Sweet combo!!"

Was the French toast airy and delightful? Were the eggs as fluffy as a cloud? Did the coffee have a nutty aroma? Unfortunately I don 't have the answers to these questions. Armed with an 5-day advance OpenTable reservation and hefty college game day appetites, our party of six showed up promptly at 9am for our pre-kickoff breakfast (well we were really 5 minutes late but nobody is perfect). Our excitement grew in our uber on the way over, all of us reviewing the online menu, making plans for our future, trading croque madams war stories in anticipation. We arrive and things go downhill faster than the Michigan defense would later that day. The hostess, with he unnecessary apron and tight hai...
It took 30 minutes to get our drinks because there was no bartender, and our waitress didn’t even know how to make them. The restaurant was empty, yet the atmosphere was filled with elevator jazz that felt more suitable for a law and order show than a New Orleans brunch. I’m not sure if anyone here has ever been to the Big Easy, judging by the music and the food. As I sit here wondering if I’ll even eat again today, I'm struggling with overcooked, rubbery shrimp that reminded me of something from Walmart. The highlight of my meal was soaking up the flavorless sauce with my French baguette—just kidding, it was a piece of toast! The best dish I had was the cheese curds, which were only slight...
Let me start by saying our waitress worked her ass off. Jana (I think) was the only bartender/waitress. There were about 10 tables she was serving and at no fault of hers, everyone was pissy. 1. There was supposed to be New Orleans theme from the menu to the music. This was according to multiple outlets I looked at. Yet, there we were not eating our beignets while listening to The non-jazz version of Chain Smokers (which is the only version they have). 2. No biggy! They have quiche and now I 'm happy again! Homemade tart crust, a creamy custard, and bacon lardone! Oh, they 're not making quiche today. 2 out of their 6 Chapter 2 items. **** happens. Maybe their custard machine was broken (jus... I went to the wise with some friends for their Wednesday special Tunes, Taps Tacos. It was just fine. We all got 3+ tacos and they were pretty average. I got the chicken, pork, and beef and they were all about the same, just with a different type of meat. The duck taco was unique with Brie and apples, but the others did lack creativity. For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate cake, which sounded very basic but was very delicious, and the berry cake. The latter has a lot of potential. The cake was light and airy, but I wasn't feeling the frozen berries. It seemed like they just weren't prepared for anyone to order it. I think The Wise has recently gotten a new chef (within the last year),...
We ordered the veggie Benedict, the smokehouse club, and the duck confit hash. The veggie Benedict was not what I had expected. While the eggs were cooked perfectly, the spinach and mushrooms were overly oily. When placed on the English muffin, it resembled more of a garlic bread that would pair well with pasta, rather than a fresh dish. I don't think I'll order it again. My friend found the duck confit hash to be underwhelming as well. The portion size did not match the size of the plate, and there wasn't much substance to the dish. It tasted okay but failed to highlight the duck confit. On a positive note, the smokehouse club received favorable reviews from other patrons.
Total sad face, I've had to down-grade my review from 5 stars to 3. I came here for breakfast recently, and the menu has very much so changed. The two dishes I mentioned in my previous review are both gone, and I'm not wild about the existing options on the new menu. It would be a very rare circumstance where I would choose to return as there are other options nearby that are just as good or better. Moreover, I didn't really realize it in my initial review, but the prices are pretty high. Still, if you like the fancy breakfast sandwiches and eggs prepared ways other than scrambled, you might still find the breakfast to be quite pleasant.
We were able to sit where we like for a 8:30 am brunch on a Sunday. Our waitress, Diane quickly greeted us and brought us water and menus. She was very welcoming. We ordered cheese curds as an app and ooooooo the cheese pulls were amazing. True Wisconsite. My French toast hit the spot and the berries were great compliment with the orange hints in the French toast. My partner enjoyed the Eggs Benedict. First for him and it was isn't too over filling. Chef Ethan and Chef Emani did a great job with our food and it was delicious! I would recommend going early on brunch Sunday! Book a table now
I tried to understand the negative reviews, but I noticed that many of them are from users with only one review—this place—which raises some questions. I can’t help but wonder if these reviewers might be ex-lovers, former employees, or even competitors. The pattern and language across the reviews feel quite similar. Given that it's a college town, there's also a chance they could have come from entitled students. Regardless, I really enjoyed my meal and plan to return the next time I'm in town.
