After grabbing take out dinner, I got an incredible need to grab something sweet. I didn't want to drive far, so I stopped at Tropicana. This bakery has gotten quite a make over from it's days as Tropical. I figured I could grab a guava and cream cheese pastry to satisfy my sweet tooth. Geez,. it was over $3- for that pastry. Don't get me wrong, I'll pay for something good but it was a little disappointing. I also got a cream cheese pastry and a pumpkin pie pastry. The guava and cream cheese could have had a lot more filling. Same went for the cream cheese one. That one was more dough than filling. Tropicana is something special. The empanadas are delicious. The spicy chickens are delicious and well seasoned. Beef emanadas are served warm with a fluffy crust. You also have a wonderful selection of cakes and pastries. The Dine menu is also great. The turkey club is made on fresh baked cubic bread with a special kick of roasted paprika to a classic sandwich.
My spouse loves this place, but for me it's average. I'm never excited to go here when he proposes it. I love Cuban cuisine, but and I have a favorite spot on Sunset Blvd, so this is not the problem. Without my spouse, I wouldn't be dining here alone. Some of the servers don't speak English just fyi. No hate of me.
I loved this place. Best bakery and the best hot chocolate! I visited this bakery several times. The staff is friendly, the place appears clean, and the order is ready at a fair time. Will definitely return and recommend it to all who want hot and delicious pastries.
