Went with the family and the kids meal came out in its own bullet train (very cool). You also have to admire any restaurant that grades its own meals, including marking those dishes that they would rather not cook but are kept on because they are popular (chicken teriyaki for example). The starters were substantial (we only had two starters each and that was fine). The Cancun Roll was one of the best sushi I have had the the lamb ribs (self rated as a 3 star) fully justified its rating. The restaurant also has a great alfresco area out the back which is great for a function for 20-40 people. It also has great Japanese liquor and beer, which can be bought to take away as well.
We dined here last night for a catch up meal with my sister & her husband while visiting in Perth & were pleasantly surprised. The menu had the usual Japanese fare but the quirky chefs comments following some of the dishes added some spark. The sushi rolls were delicious as were the unusual quail gyoza we ordered for entree. The waiters were very helpful with my food intolerances & our sukiyaki we shared together was perfect. Loved the decor & atmosphere of this restaurant we will definitely return when next in Perth .
If you enjoy traditional Japanese food, a vibrant suburban atmosphere supplemented by live music and friendly staff you should definitely consider Tsunami. If you are a sake expert or a novice it is likely that you will find the sake type-taste-quality range to satisfy you. Same for Japanese whiskey and beer. If you seek a view on politics, economy or the overall current world challenges you can always approach the owner who will be more than happy to join in a meaningful conversation.
I have never eaten in a Japanese restaurant in Perth for fear of the usual... traditional dishes being westernised to accomodate local palates... we thought we would give it a try.. we ordered a variety of dishes but was not overly impressed by any of them.. the sukiyaki pot was overly sweet there was no balance with the savoury... would I return or recommend - probably not

We went for a wedding. There's only street parking . We had to enter through the back where there's an open area for pre dinner drinks. Then we walk into the restaurant but it was all outside as this is where they can hold big functions. It had fairy lights and was enclosed with trees it was beautiful. Staff were fantastic throughout the evening. Meals were very nice.
Attentive and friendly staff in a relaxed and warm setting. It was perfect for our family get together and between the 6 of us we tried many dishes, along with old favourites all of which were delicious, tastey and well presented - couldn't fault it! I'd highly recommend dining here, whatever the occasion.
This is my second time and the place just keeps a very big smile on one's face. Excellent staff, sumptuous food and a sake range to suit all pallets! Save room for the Icecream sampler ????
Had a great time for a birthday celebration. Good food. Good service. I suggest looking at the chefs recommendations and going with those dishes.

Tsunami is a local hero and has fabulous food atmosphere and sake. It's also has a good wine list. Love the sukiyaki pot and tempura!
