So, we went to Avila's for dinner, and I have to say, as someone who has recently graduated from culinary school, I absolutely adore their Chili Verde! They use the perfect cut of meat, and the flavor of both the meat and the sauce is simply bursting with taste. There's truly no other place quite like it, and I must commend the chef at Avila's!

There are several locations like this, but it's not part of a chain or franchise; it’s family-owned. My wife visited their Santa Ana location near her work and loved the food just as much. It’s a great spot to enjoy a nice meal, have a few drinks, and unwind. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating.
During the tough times of the pandemic, we supported them by ordering takeout, and the food was just as exceptional as when we dine in. Keep in mind that during peak hours, there can be quite a wait, so if you plan to go on a Friday night, it's best to arrive early.
Avila's El Ranchito is a must go to for some great authentic Mexican food! I have to say that during our most recent trip to the LA area, this spot was the highlight of our trip! As others have mentioned the guacamole, salsa chips were wonderful! The food platters were fresh, and the staff were great! Love the great atmosphere we were in. Thank you to all Avila's El Ranchito! We were in town for a short vacation. Just happened to stumble across this place. From the second you walk through the door we were met by Salvador who was very gracious and quickly got us to the table. Our server was very friendly and even though they were a little busy she took the time to make sure our meal was perfect. We would highly recommend going here. From the great hospitality to the food the experience was great.

I gotta say, the food here is truly traditional Mexican in the best sense. The food here is so great, that this alone is deserving of 5 stars. But the service, in the midst of a pandemic is very impressive. We mistakenly went to the front door and waited, instead of going to the the new line at the back. They were so attentive us, and they escorted to the back line, but seated us immediately. We had a perfect dinner.
Avila was very crowded on Friday night, but we only waited about 5 to 8 minutes before being seated with three other parties. The food was fantastic. I ordered the Chicken Mole Enchiladas and loved every bite. My brother had the Carnitas, which he described as tender and flavorful. His wife ordered a burrito, but due to a mix-up, she received the appetizer sampler instead. She still enjoyed it, though!
There are countless Mexican restaurants in Costa Mesa, but this one ranks among my Top 5. The salsa and guacamole are consistently fresh! I specifically visit for the moles, which are the ideal complement to chicken. The portions are generous, and the service is excellent.
