after reading the so-called "hyrambican" reviews, we finally decided to book at max. booking is recommended because it is popular. we walked from the city center, which is a pleasant walk on the other side of the river. this restaurant is so French about 20 years ago! it's a little chaotic, pressed but still seems to be a wait just for food! food concentrates on good quality ingredients, simply prepared. the restaurant is a little strait, extremely hot (no air conditioning just a fan on foot) and very dated. waitresses are a little maussad but the boss has quite the character. We could be forgiven to think that you were on the plateau of some British sitcom. food was perfectly usable but off...
super host, great welcome, good food. My wife, my little girl and my dog recently came down to max for my birthday meal. We were greeted as old friends when we arrived, a table to welcome our dog and our daughter in a high chair. As my wife is pescetarian, there was a lot of choice in fish (she chose St. James shells), but vegetables and vegans may have to specify their needs in the restaurant. they were happy to describe the contents of the dishes to keep you straight. I, on the other hand, chose the roast lamb square. It was great. the bubbles we had at the aperitif were superb, but when I looked at the glass of red wine that I had, I think it might have been stuck - my fault that I didn't...
Je komt hier niet bij toeval terecht. Hoewel op loopafstand van centrum van Épernay, ligt het restaurantje een beetje uit de route. Ook de buitenkant wekt niet de indruk dat je hier binnengaat in een prima restaurant met traditioneel Franse keuken met veel liefde voor het vak. Wij komen om 19 uur als eersten binnen in restaurant en worden vriendelijk verwelkomd door eigenaar Max. Binnen een half uur zitten beide verdiepingen van het restaurant echter vol. Kaart met traditioneel Franse gerechten. De, door Max aan tafel bereidde, steak tartare is een aanrader (en populair). Prima prijs-/kwaliteitverhouding.
small restaurant with a warm and family atmosphere. the friendly boss is in the oven and mill but takes the time to welcome you with the smile and especially to explain with details and passion the products of the region he has to his card. dishes are generous, chichi-free and served quickly. We particularly appreciated the kindness of the staff and the professionalism of the boss. We'll go back.

a small restaurant that does not pay an outdoor mine and that inside would need a little refresh but where the welcome is really very warm. we feel that the products are fresh and everything is done home. only small flat, a small lack of flavour at the level of the dishes and the poached foie gras would deserve to be a little higher. the value/price ratio is good in view of the products offered.
Cela fait maintenant plusieurs années que nous nous rendons Chez Max chaque fois que nous sommes en Champagne. Accueil toujours aussi chaleureux par Monsieur. Service aux petits soins. Cuisine traditionnelle de grande qualité. Produits frais joliment préparés. Bon rapport qualité/prix. A la prochaine....nous reviendrons !
The service, help and attention could not have been better and we had a most excellent meal. For my main course I had the rack of lamb which was superb. The others were also very happy too. Will definitely visit again on our return to Épernay.
the owner is a real phenomenon of courtesy, cheerfulness and choreography, I rarely met such a spectacular person, the restaurant's proposal is excellent in variety and quality, the prices are excellent, we really enjoyed it.
